Formed in early 2007 by friends Frank Montoni and Anthony Buonomo, Beneath A Blackened Sky is a mixture of Long Island’s finest underground metal musicians. Though the band itself is young, the members are no strangers to the hardcore scene.
Anthony has been shredding an axe since age 13. He’d played for a band called Pandora and recorded his own music on the side. He and Frank struck up a conversation one day and began to jam together. They decided to start a new project and call it Beneath A Blackened Sky.
Steve Marinaro started playing music at the age of 10. Cutting his teeth on the likes of Vinnie Paul and John Bonham, he quickly became a furious force in the art of percussion. Since he and Frank had a prior history as bandmates in Comatose and Murder In The Choir, he was the obvious choice to pound skins for this new metal manifestation.
Chris Genosa jumped into the mix after years of practicing death metal and punk rock guitar riffs. His surgical licks gave him the advantage over most others. But, as the guys jammed in Chris’ living room day after day, they realized there was a pure sonic chemistry between them that needed the perfect frontman.
Enter Mike Peranio. Hailed as one of today’s best hardcore vocalists by the likes of Mistress Juliya, Mikey fronted Long Island’s Sinaria for four years. The band toured extensively, opening for Biohazard, All That Remains, 36 Crazy Fists , 3 Inches Of Blood, Unearth, In This Moment, Dead To Fall and many other national acts. When Sinaria went their separate ways, he was approached to growl for Beneath A Blackened Sky. Once he agreed to front the band, the lineup was complete.
After less than a year of playing together and a few live shows, the band decided it was time to start recording a demo. They immediately caught the attention of Producer and CEO of MEI Records, Anthony Paganini. After a few recording sessions, Anthony decided they were too good to pass up and the band was signed.
Their debut album, "The Art of Suffering" was released in December 2008 to critical praise. Soon after, Alex Poulos was added on keyboards to give a new dimension to the bands' sound. Unfortunately, the band decided to let go of Frank in March of 2009 due to personal reasons, replacing him on bass with former Code 6 frontman Joshua Kerekes. Currently the band is rehearsing with the new members and ready to hit the road in support of "The Art Of Suffering"
