August 2006:
I have been playing guitar for almost 6 years now, and for the past 8 months have been taking once a week music theory lessons (which are proving to be invaluable) from noted Portland guitarist Richard Corson. I have also recently started teaching guitar for beginner and intermediate guitar players.
I am currently working in 1 project right now, a 5 piece rock n' roll jam band called Heavy Dime that plays covers ranging from The Dead, Phish, Talking Heads, Trey Anastasio, The Greg Kihn Band, Deep Purple, and the Marshall Tucker Band, to Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Bob Dylan (2 guitars, drums, bass, and keys). We like taking chances with the music, testing the music, seeing where it takes us. Heavy Dime has and always will be about making music in the moment. Music is an ever evolving thing, and I'm just glad to be around for the ride.
Heavy Dime is your band that's available at a moments notice to play gigs, parties, etc. We are constantly working new material into our repetoir to keep fresh, so expect to hear something new every time you see us.
Music is life for me, and a life-long practice that I re-learn everyday when I pick up my guitar. Since I've discovered how vast a world music & it's theories are, I can't stop breathing it in; it's an addiction to learn. It's like something that smells so good, you can't take a deep enough breath to breathe in all the good smells at once, and everytime you take another breath in, it's a different smell than before. Or something to that effect.
I also want to pick up a mandolin in my travels, but guitar is proving to be enough of a time-consumer at this point. Percussion is also in my bag, but I haven't spent much time at this stop since the guitar came along.
Stay tuned for more music and thanks for the support!
