At this moment, a few names stand out..
As a bass player: Ray Brown, Jamerson, Jaco...
As a Musician: Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Mingus..
This list will probably change by the hour...
Ben Murphy plays electric, fretless, and upright bass. He plays jazz, blues, funk, ska, and alot of whatever. Ben first picked up the bass at age 11, and has since been gigging around Atlanta. He tries to learn and practice as much as possible. In fact, he's probably practicing right now.
Ben's played at many venues around Atlanta and surrounding areas, with several groups as a member or side man. He has recorded with blues group Swagger, ska octet Chasing Eight, and on his own demo/audition tape, which you can hear on this page, featuring Jack Jones, Tom Grose, and Deji Coker. He is currently playing with Chasing Eight, an as-of-yet unnamed jazz quartet, and whoever else calls. Ben will be attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, in New York next year.

Between any musician standing on stage, no individual comes before the music. If one stops listening to the individual and starts listening to the music, they realize that it doesn't matter who is making the music, only that it is being made.
Thanks a million Ben for joining our ministry of Blues. It's all about peace, love understanding, and GROOVE! Hope to perform for you sometime. Enjoyed your tunes. BTW... Rodney Jordon lives here and we get to hear him regularly. Wishing you the very best in Blues and life! -Big Daddy

after i played the stevie ray vaughan version ofd little wing i went outside for a smoke and this producer and manager were standing there. they asked me how long i had been playing. i said two years but i practice up to twelve hours a day. he invited me to record at his studio over a "Rebel" rap group cd. I'm now joining 5 bands and get to choose who does what and he thinks im gonna go far. I was just improvising for an hour straight and the people in his studio that were in there 40s were so impressed. The bands im joining are in need of a lead guitarist whom already have a deal with Ron Myers (my manager) so yeah hard work does pay off. I may not be the best guitarist you know but when it comes to playing with deep emotion i am on top of it. and yeah thanks for your support things are going great for me right now.
