Benny Friedman is a professionally trained vocalist and performer living in Brooklyn, NY. As a young child, his unique vocal talent gained the attention of Jewish music producers. Shortly after his Bar Mitzvah, Benny was invited to perform in a string of Catskill Mountain summer camps, where his heart-warming renditions wowed disbelieving audiences.
Benny's first concert tour happened almost accidentally after he left home to study, first in Los Angeles and then in Miami, Arizona and Israel. Word of his talent preceded him in each place, and while deeply committed to his studies, Benny spent his vacations performing in cities around the US, Israel and Europe.
After graduating, Benny returned to California to actively pursue his musical passion. Drawing on the colorful experiences in the countries he had visited, he developed a show titled Judaism: The Song and the Story, and began performing it all along the West Coast.
The musical influences of Benny's childhood home in Minnesota – from classic cantorial works of Rosenblatt and Koussevitzky to popular hits of his uncle, Chassidic star Avraham Fried – come through in each performance. Notable are the cantors' passionate musical message, Fried's heart-stopping vocals and the mesmeric storytelling of folksinger Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.
Benny currently studies voice under the guidance of legendary vocal coach Seth Riggs, and he is working on his debut album to be released in spring 2008.
