"New Yorker Ben Sadock has given us the album we didn't know we were waiting for until we heard it with You Are The Beneficiary of Us, in which we get a return to the sound of pre-Graceland Paul Simon, Can't Buy a Thrill-era Steely Dan, leavened with a dash of Randy Newman. In other words, NYC-influenced, sophisticated 70s singer-songwriter pop that takes its cues in equal doses from The Brill Building and Motown." -ABSOLUTE POWERPOP
"Some of Sadock’s work, with his youthful almost playful voice, is very reminiscent of Matt Costa (and we love Matt Costa!)" -KICKIN' THE PEANUTS
"He's got a very nice, calm, quiet loopiness in his songs, a great sense of melody, and a great voice. And he's a sweetie." - Steve Espinola
"If I were on a lifeboat with Ben Sadock and there was only enough food for one of us I would gladly sacrifice myself that he might survive. His contribution to American music is that great." - Bobby Lightfoot
so this morning, i opened my window onto saint nicholas avenue and put on "let me into your life" immediately followed by "stepping out of jersey" and decided that i would like to be able to wake up to those two songs every day.
HEY! now im not gonna be all sleazy and pretend that im actually saying hello, 'cause its gonna be pretty obvious that this is a mass-produced message. But the good thing is, there are no evil intentions I need to disguise anyway! I'm simply writing cause me and my band are playing a show tomorrow night and naturally we want people to come. It's at Public Assembly, 70 N. 6th St. in Williamsburg, and we're on at 7:30. sheesh! If only everyone was this straightforward, people would fall in love more often!
An overdue review: Fantastic CD. Consistently great songs, smartly sequenced, wonderfully sung and arranged. Your wordplay blows my mind...and it enhances pieces that already have a lot of authentic feeling in them.
Oh, and have I told you lately that you write great tunes?
I checked my mailbox as I was heading out yesterday and was thrilled to see that your CD had arrived. Listened to it at 3am when I got in last night cause I couldn't wait. Love it!
CD arrived on Friday. I feel privileged to have an early copy - you should have signed it!! I have been playing it at home over the weekend, in my car this morning, and at work this afternoon. I encourage everyone who reads this to buy it... tomorrow... or if you read this tomorrow... today!
Hi Ben, I've been listening to your new songs this afternoon. You know I'm a fan. It struck me that some of your songs reminds me of early Fagen/Becker - perhaps its the Rhodes and wistful arrangements but I am loving it. (Stepping out of Jersey). Any news on you album...
