Ben Tap Soul was started by Ben Nathan and Etan Efrati in the summer of 2005. They played in various venues in New York City, but upon returning to the University of Massachusetts in the fall, they started looking to expand the band and its sound. After a short search, the guitarist Michael Feder was added to the band a few gigs started coming; however there was still an element missing in the bands chemistry. The bassist, Kyle Mooney, was found a few weeks later at a Soulive concert. Etan and Michael had been talking to a friend at the concert and had mentioned that they were looking for a bassist, at which point Kyle chirped in "I'm a bassist." At last, Ben Tap Soul was complete.
Ben Tap Soul plays a unique blend of music, ranging from rock, to reggae, to hip-hip and soul. Ben Nathan's lyrics are fueled with a passion found in his Jewish religiosity and deals with everything from nagging grandmothers to Israeli's living in todays Israel and the choices they must face. To make it complete, Ben Nathan adds his 12 years of tap dancing experience and integrates it tastefully into the songs. All the members of Ben Tap Soul are currently attending the University of Massachusetts in various fields that the university offers.
