Bent, Broken, & Blue has been getting some radio play from WOBO Ohio on their Celtic and Bluegrass radio shows! Thanks a lot, WOBO!
Many people, upon first hearing the powerful musical project that is BB&B, remark upon many of the same points, the most immediate being the powerful stylings of lead vocalist Melanie B. With a voice like pureed penne pasta, Melanie establishes the tone of the group’s ever-evolving musical development. An active vocalist from three months before birth, Melanie’s heartfelt hairbrush ballads as a child not only set her on the path to vocal fame, but are some of her only truly happy memories.
Every band needs an instrument or two, and Ian S, or "Mando Slim" as he is called within the industry, certainly has one. Ian’s early roots in Jazz at the tender age of six and then subsequent foray into Blues music (when he was known as "Muddy Waters Short") may have left him scarred for life, but he, like any real artiste, sublimates his pain into soul-wrenching breaks and ear-twisting phraseologies reminiscent of things lost then found, as if the continent of Atlantis were to rise from the sea, the bones of her Kings new-covered with flesh. To hear Ian’s mandolin crafting is to absorb musical artistry at it’s most undefinably abstract and carmelized level.
What can be said about bassist Richard "Mr. Cool" W that hasn’t yet been said about those rare, inspired megatalents of ages past? Especially comments which can be interpreted into understandable, non-vulgar English? His prodigious talents transcend mere mortaldom, aspiring to heights only glimpsed from afar by the Olympian Gods themselves. Narcissistically revelling in more than his fair share of the muses, Richard is content to simply smirk in self satisfaction as he amazes the dazzled and incredulous fans of BB&B with his unforgivingly flawless technique, all the while teasing them by chewing on cigars he never gets around to smoking.
Undeniably the focal point of talent in BB&B is the man whose instrumentalistic genius is comparable only to his studied and perfected showmanship which keeps audience members glued to their camping chairs, perfectly content to soil themselves rather than risk missing one millisecond’s auditory bliss or a single exchange of clever repartee by taking a restroom break. Singer, songwriter, manager, band counselor, the man who, in effect, holds it all together and keeps the "show on the road"- this position is currently open for ANYONE who can churn out a half-decent guitar break. Please call 556 9937 after 3pm.
Mike E, all-around picker, says he is just in it for the money and funnel cakes.
