Good thing summer is here because this CD is best enjoyed driving along the highway (city or country), windows open/top down (arm preferably around a cute chick riding shotgun) sung along to at the top of your lungs! 11 fun, rockin’ tunes about cruisin’ along the ocean, way-too-friendly family reunions, taking your boat out on open seas and catching a peepin’ tom outside your house. It’s a hot and humid summertime - musicfied!
Stomping guitars and drums, soulful organ and David Harrod’s twangy Tim DeLaughter meets Kurt Cobain voice (what else would you expect of a boy from Omaha, TX!?) push the catchy, often downright sexy, songwriting down the road. Bent Eye Bolt’s melodies and storyteller hooks weave and wind through your head all day long.
Produced by Stephen Haas (his past projects include work with Ginger Mackenzie, Sara Hickman, Lil Black, and Freebleeder) at his Addison Studios in Austin, Unknown Artist is a romping Texas rock-n-roll ride. From Doors-ish beach rock to the eerily composed and effected “Peepin’ Tom,” this recording never goes dull and grows thicker with each track.

On their MySpace page, Bent Eye Bolt has their musical style listed as psychedelic/indie/rock. I'm glad they have that description up there because I had no idea what to call them. All I was gonna say is that they're different, which they are. I might have used terms like garage rock, retro, maybe even classic rock since the first track, "Crusin' Ocean Drive," had a Rolling Stones guitar riff...at least that's what it reminded me of when I heard it for the first time. They're also a rather creative lyrical band. But, to be honest with you, I'm not quite sure what kind of audience they're going after here. They're probably a big hit on college radio. If they're not, they should be. I know their audience has to have an open mind when it comes to the music they listen to. The music is different enough to where it doesn't fit under one label, which I believe is part of the charm that Bent Eye Bolt seems to have. It's a good disc to have when you want to disrupt the flow of what you usually listen to. I've thrown it on quite a few times and I always hear something new. So, it's probably an album that will take some time to grow on you. But, once it does, you'll get a lot of pleasure out of it.
Havent caught you guys in some time now. However, last night your SXSE recorded performance was on the tube and you guys rocked out. Hope to see something live soon.
