The seeds for Bent Wavelength were sown back in May 1994 when guitarist Adrian Marshall and drummer Andrew Sagayam formed a pub covers band called The Crave. After doing the rounds of nightspots around KL, they realised there was little future in playing covers and began writing their own music. This would be the start of a long journey of line-up changes, band names, demos and countless rejections from record companies.
It would take until September 1998 for them to find the missing link in the form of bassist Simon Pang. The band locked themselves away and concentrated on refining their songs and sound. In April 1999 they recorded and released a self-financed single to radio stations which would eventually catch the ears of indie label PonyCanyon. Further impressed by their live 12 song demo, the label promptly signed the band in November 1999.
Entering Craze Studios in January 2000, Bent Wavelength would spend the next 3 months recording their debut album. Well before its release, the band would already establish a formidable reputation thanks to their fiery live performances and were widely regarded as the best 3 piece band on the scene. Released in September 2000, "Right Here Right Now" boasts 10 original tracks and 2 covers.
2001 would see the band parting ways with their drummer & founding member as well as their record label. In turn the band roped in prominent session drummer Michael Cheong. This new line-up would debut at the The Big Wow (a re-launch for radio station WOW Fm) in July 2001 where they enjoyed the distinction of being the only band called back for an encore. They were in the midst of working on material for their 2nd album when it became painfully obvious there was no future in the Malaysian music scene. The band called it quits in July 2002.
Bent Wavelength leave behind a legacy of being the only english singing ska group in Malaysia to gain commercial success. Their song "Nobody Else" would reach number 3 on the Hitz Malaysian Top 10 in December 2000 - the highest position for a local ska band. Whereas songs like "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" and the peace, love & unity anthem "Let's Get Together" still receive healthy airplay on Malaysian radio.
