The musicians in the quartet are Jim Blomfield on piano, Riaan Vosloo on double bass and Andy Hague on Drums and will be releasing an album on the new Edition record label in 2009. Pedalmania is John Paul Gard, Eddy John and, er, me. The other stuff is mostly me, a computer... and a triangle. I'm also a member of pianist and composer Dave Stapletons Quintet so check out his page, and this youtube link...
Influences
Loads of great jazz musicians...... Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Stan Turrentine, Cannonball Adderley, Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Brad Meldhau, Medeski Martin and Wood, Herbie Mann, Jimmy Smith, Johnny Griffin, Stan Getz ....... and other stuff, notably Amon Tobin, Jimpster, DJ Food, as well as the many people I've played with over the years
The music I have posted here is a mixture of live contemporary Jazz with my Quartet and from the upcoming album with Pedalmania (John Paul Gard and Eddy John), Route A66. There is also some studio based stuff I have done. I hope you enjoy some of it.....
As a musician I have been involved in some varied things over the years - but highlights include working alongside musicians and bands such as Dave Stapletons Quintet, Keith Tippett, John Etheridge, Steve Waterman, Damon Brown, Andy Sheppard, Sirius B, Alan Barnes, Andy Hague's Quintet and Big Band, Jim Blomfield, Jeff Spencer, Jerry Crozier Cole, Morningstar, Invisible pair of Hands and hammond organist John Paul Gard. I have also played and/or recorded with bands Portishead, Goldfrapp, Kasabian, Lucky Soul, Phantom Limb and Ilya, and have done some playing on a forthcoming Ninja Tune release with John Matthius. I recently worked for composer Richard G Mitchell playing clarinet on the soundtrack for the film 'A Good Woman'. There is a biog on my website....www.benwaghorn.co.uk.... if you're interested
The Jazz Quartet and Pedalmania play Jazz Venues and Festivals all over the country. The quartet features pianist Jim Blomfield, bassist Riaan Vosloo and drummer Andy Hague. Pedalmania as above. I play saxes, bass clarinet and flute, and the material that we play is a mixture of original tunes - you can listen to some mp3s on here - and standards. ....click here for some more musical bits and bobs....
I am currently playing a SYSTEM 54 Superior model Tenor Saxophone, it's a really great horn.
The entire album is a testament to good jazz. The rhythm section sounds great, both individually and as a unit, complimenting Andrew’s lyrical style perfectly.
