Live electro-acoustic collaboration between composers David Berezan and Ian Vine.
David Berezan is Lecturer and Director of the Electroacoustic Music Studios (MANTIS) at the University of Manchester. A Canadian-born composer, he studied from 2000 to 2003 with Jonty Harrison in the PhD program in electroacoustic music composition at the University of Birmingham, UK. His work has been awarded in the Bourges (France, 2002), Russolo (Italy, 2002), Radio Magyar (Hungary, 2001), Sao Paulo (Brazil, 2003 and 2005), Espace du Son (Belgium, 2002) and YESA (Canada, 2000) competitions. Recent performances have taken place throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and North and South America. Previous studies in music composition, performance and Russian history and language took place in Calgary, Edmonton, Banff and Stanford.
Ian Vine was born in England and spent his formative years in Libya and Hong Kong. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Anthony Gilbert and graduated in 1997. He has also studied privately with Simon Holt. Between 1999 and 2004 Ian was Tutor in Electro-Acoustic Music at the Royal Northern College of Music, and also taught for a time at MANTIS, the electro-acoustic studios at The University of Manchester. His music is performed across Europe, and has been broadcast worldwide and televised on BBC 2 and Radio Televisión Española. Commissioners of his work have included the London Sinfonietta, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Ensemble Recherche, and Matthew Herbert. His work has been released on Accidental and Kairos, and is published by BMIC.
Current projects include a work for an art gallery in Berlin for live instruments and multi-channel electronics, and an ensemble piece for the London Sinfonietta.
