Berkana are Neil Benton, Terry Armitage and Lou Finch who love to perform traditional, contemporary and self-penned folk material. Singer-songwriters Terry and Neil, joined forces in 2002 and at the end of 2007 were themselves joined by Lou Finch, a talented female vocalist from Wakefield.
Together they perform an ever expanding list of traditional-idiom material on a variety of instruments, featuring their own arrangements and unaccompanied close harmonies. Combined with their interpretations of more contemporary songs they also entertain with some highly original material of their own.
Although new to the folk scene with this line up, local lads Terry and Neil have been popular regulars at Cleckheaton Folk Festival over the last five years. Lou has performed in musical stage shows at Wakefield Theatre Royal and Arts Centre and although influenced by a wide range of music, is especially interested in recycling traditional folk. Last by no means least is Tony Taffinder, guitar wizz and multi instrumentalist. He sings too. Tony has been on the folk scene for many years and has played with, among others, Tom Napper and Tom Bliss.
