Composer, arranger and producer, Bernhard Penzias has produced a wealth of albums and singles throughout his career. Many of those recordings have been certified Gold and/or Platinum.
Hailing originally from Vienna, Austria - as a guitarist and keyboardist - he has toured extensively with some of the top acts of his own native country as well as with popular artists from Germany, Switzerland and Italy. He has shared arena-sized stages with the likes of Roxette, Bryan Adams, Extreme, The Bee Gees and Gary Moore to name a few.
With regards to production credits, Bernie has produced for a number of major record companies, including Sony Music, BMG, Ariola, Warner Music, Universal Music and EMI. He has also produced for independent record labels of all sizes, ranging from individually owned firms such as GoForIt! Records to the worlds second largest independent label, Koch Music (now part of Universal Music Group).
Throughout his producing career, Bernhard has maintained a constant flow of high-profile clientele - many recurring, including Austrias Bluatschink. He produced the bands nineth album, released in 2004. During this period, he also ended up as one of Koch Musics most highly paid producers, having produced over 20 albums for that company.
Bernhards professional talents have been called upon for many other music-related ventures. For several years running, he participated as a juror in Europes largest and most well known band competition, Pop-O-Drom. He also gave seminars on guitar performance throughout Europe.
In 1990, he opened bernelands entertainment, a studio and production company in Vienna. Immediately, it became known throughout the country as a great resource for developing talent. It also wasnt long before he began working with some of the largest advertising agencies in the business such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis, Lowe GGK and Ogilvy & Mather. Accounts included Swisscom and radio/television stations, like Austrias biggest pop radio station, ..3.
In 2002, Bernhard expanded his horizons and opened his studio in Los Angeles, called berne:base. In a short time, he began working with such luminaries as Johnny Britt (singer & trumpet player for Maxwell, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hankock), Freddie Washington (bass player/composer for Michael Jackson, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston) and Benjamin Wright (string arranger for Michael Jacksons Off The Wall, Quincy Jones, Earth, Wind & Fire and Janet Jackson), producing tracks for IMPROMP2 on their 2003 released album The Definition Of Love (Big3 / Warner), which won the 2004 LA Music Award; or producing & engineering alternative band The Sugarplum Fairiess album Introspective Raincoat Student Music (Starfish Records). He also worked on TV-series, amongst them Ocean Drive. The 260 episodes series features Bernhards own music compositions and has been released in Europe and the US.
Since 2005, Bernhard has relocated his studio to Hollywood, CA, named it petting:zoo recording studios and worked on numerous projects for Film/TV and major record labels like Sony/BMG and Universal Music, producing some of Austrias top acts, like award winning artist Georg Danzer, whos 14th album was nominated for the Austrian Grammy, the Amadeus in 2006.
"I wanted to stretch out as a producer and it only made sense to move to LA. I feel that in Los Angeles, I can really expand creatively." Because of the talent, skills and creativity that Bernhard possesses, that process has already begun.
