A member of a family of seven, Bernie grew up in Canberra. But it wasnt until high school that a young Hayes picked up the guitar. And from the age of 15 he could be found playing the wine bars in Canberra in bands such as In One Ear and The Shuffle.
Sydney was graced with his presence in the early 80's when he was a member of the Gadflys and played at the Sandringham Hotel, Newtown (more affectionately known as the Sando) in the days when the horse-shoe bar was downstairs.
From late 1987 until early 1996 he had a regular gig with his brothers Stevie Plunder (real name Anthony Hayes) and Pat Hayes, in the Shout Brothers (also known as the Shouties). However, sadly the Shout Brothers gigs came to an end with the untimely death of Stevie in January 1996. But this was not before releasing 'Colussus' in 1995, and then after Stevies death, brother Justin Hayes joined the band. The new line-up saw the release of 'Indelible' in 1997.
In 1999 he released his first solo album through Half A Cow records, 'Every Tuesday, Sometimes Sunday'.
The release of his second album, 'Domestic Departures', came in 2003. This time with the Bernie Hayes Quartet (John Encarnocao, Bill Gibson and Jess Ciampa). Again released through Half A Cow records.
As if he wasnt already busy enough, he is also a member of 'Dog Trumpet' with Reg Mambossa and Peter Doherty, and 'The Dead Marines' with Brendan Gallagher (Karma County) and Bow Campbell (Front End Loader). Their debut album was released in 2005 through Vitamin Records.
And right now Bernie is enjoying semi-regular Wednesday nights at the Rose of Australia in Erskineville (check street press for details) and is working on a 3rd solo album, due out later this year (hopefully!).
this site isnt actually run by bernie himself, although i believe he does pop in from time to time (or he will when he works out how to). all messages are very easily passed on, so dont be shy.

From childhood we all have music within us. Dream of music to fill our lives’ Dream of music to fill our soul Dream of Music of all varieties.
When we grow we all feel they rhythms of music within our life Sadly most of forget how music filled our lives as we all tend to grow up and out of music. The Dreamers keep all aspects of the music. To others they follow the general flow and go to show the substance is a cash flow.
The Dream of music has been hidden. Because of our families, we are all driven to go with societies flow.
No matter how it goes. The dreams of music is never forgotten Put in a cupboard of mind And pressured to conform.
The Real dreamers are never forgotten. Their lives are filled with passion, Imagination and regeneration of music.
The note are formed The keys are heard The words are written and all is put together.
In heart this music flow. To reach your ears, your body, your soul. The music has vibrations that will always grow within you. It matches your vibrations and then it reaches deep within you, you become apart of music and music becomes a part of you.
Because The Music, just like you grows. Man knows that music comes from deep within. For Music dreamers have been passes on from the beginning of time, right up till this very day.
Music Of dreams will always become a part of everyone’s’ heart. This is where every woman, child and man knows’, that this is part of everyone’s dream. This is where Music and Dreams become one. Each person feels the music, their own way. Each person feels the belonging of music. Each being feels. This is where music really grows.
To Accept ones limits is to lose ones dreams To expand ones limits is to live ones dreams To shorten your own limits to please others is to cut ones life.

Woody Guthrie wrote the following message in the 1930's:
"This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright 154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ours, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do."

The Falls have been short listed for a chance to perform at the "Sound Of Music Festival" alongside bands such as 1990's, The Devoted Few, Belles Will Ring and the Seabellies.
In order to make it on the festival they are holding a show at the Spectrum in a few weeks to decide the final band - but to get on the gig at spectrum we need as many people to send a message to the festival's myspace page. So please help us by dropping them a message.
2. Send them a message with THE FALLS as the SUBJECT, saying that you "think The Falls should play at the Spectrum and open the Sound of Music Festival!"
That is all.... so easy!
Thanks for your help, Simon + Melinda + Dave + Mal + Pat + Gerard The Falls
