About me: My darling husband Eric and I have been married for 4 years (I think...hmm) and we presently live in the magical suburb of Machans Beach, Cairns (Queensland, Australia!). I was born in Cairns and have lived here almost always. Eric was born in Finland, grew up in Melbourne and has lived in Cairns almost three decades. He has lived in this house in Machans almost all this time, and I have been here almost ten years. Eric has a grown up daughter who is presently living and working in Scotland, and I have a fifteen year old daughter and a thirteen year old son who live with us. In the last few years we have both gently put down the Psychology PhDs we were working on and walked rapidly away, whistling noncholantly. We feel as if we have had a narrow escape from a horrid academic existence!
I am having a ball working in a funky little cafe, and Eric is having the time of his life driving a few days a week as a courier down through the stunning countryside to the south of Cairns, and another nice little job that mainly involves driving a hire car up the magnificent scenic ocean hugging road to Port Douglas once a month, and then taking a few notes once he gets there!
We have decided to give all this up and move to Tasmania! We have been planning the move for a couple of years now, but actually only went to Tassie for the first time a few months ago. We planned our trip for the heart of winter, thinking we ought to see it at its most challenging. We LOVED it and so firmed up our plans to go. We are presently painting and doing a few small renos and are planning to put our house on the market mid 2008, and as soon as it sells, we shall trundle off away from the swaying sugarcane and off to where the berries grow! yay! So if you are looking for a splendid home in the tropics, stay tuned!
Who I'd like to meet: Adam Hills (Anything you want is yours, Adam)
Tim Minchin (Same goes for you, Tim)
Ross Noble (Ditto!)
Hamish Blake (we both want you, Hamish...)
Paul Theroux (Travel writer/ novelist)
Love your Cat slideshow, love cats actually! I just cooked my two rascals 2 fresh Basa fillets and they love me, cheaper than cat food! The Pooches are waiting for their garlic basted chicken leg each, (and $56 for Advantage flea treatment! I need 3 jobs) Cheers
