    Beshemoth's Interests
GeneralMusic, gigs, hanging out with my mates and talking shite, gossip, bad movies, stupid tv programmes, liberal applications of alcohol, dancing, burlesque, having adventures, homebrew, reading sarcastic weblogs, cartoons, attempting to create 'art', astrology, astronomy, half-baked home-made herbalism, various New Age-y things, photography (of anything that doesn't move fast enough), cocktails, making cakes, ill-advised attachment to purple and/or spangly things, chainsaws, paintball, tanks, stripey tights, corsets, zombies, zombie survivalism, getting a few pints in of a sunny afternoon and arguing in a half-arsed way about the laws of phyiscs.
MusicSpecifically: Pop Will Eat Itself, Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More, Depeche Mode, Carter USM, Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Green Day, Offspring, Wildhearts, Killing Joke, Therapy? Pixies, RHCP, Levellers, Sugar, Bob Mould, Gorrillaz, Aerosmith, Muse, Shirehorses, Disturbed, Tool, PJ Harvey, Utah Saints (yes I know). Less specifically: industrial, alternative rock, really really cheesy rock, other music that isn't rock (except, like, jazz. It's a childhood trauma thing).

To aid mine own, ailing, memory: Bands I’ve seen (not always related to “music I like” but I’ve rarely had a duff experience at a gig!)

Since moving home: Alanis Morisette; Alice in Chains; Armoured Cats + Wired Desire + Logan; B52's; Bob Mould; Bob Mould again; The Breeders; Carter + Frank & Walters; Cycle of Zen + Dave Hughes Folkspunk Band + El Bastardos + Mr Fog; Dave Hughes + El Bastardos; Dead City Riots; Depeche Mode in Dublin; Depeche mode in Berlin; Dick Dangerous & the Love Bastards + Bombskare; Dick Dangerous and the Love Bastards again; Disturbed; Dragonforce; Dresden Dolls; The Eagles of Death Metal + The Haze; Eagles of Death Metal again; Eddy and the T-Bolts; Eddy and the T-Bolts + Psycho Babe + Social Schism; Flagrantes de Delires plus two French support bands; Green Day; Gun + Warrior Soul + some other stuff; Hollow-point + Suede Demin Secret Police; Hollow-point + Pablo Eskimo; Hollow-point again plus some lovely wee bands; Hollow-point a fourth time believe it or not (can you tell I was going out with their singer? He is luverly); Idlewild + Twilight Sad; Imperial Vipers + Armoured Cats; Armoured Cats again plus, ooh, oh well, they were memorable...; Jim Bob + Yer Maw; Julian Cope; Killing Joke; Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli; Manic Street Preachers + ?; Maximo Park + The Noisettes; Max Raptor + The Feud + Hollow-point + The Limits; Mercury Tilt Switch; Ministry; Dolly Parton; The Pixies + Sons and Daughters; The Pogues; Reverend Horton Heat; Static-X + The Defiled; Therapy? + The Sound Explosion; Wildhearts; Wolf Mother plus two bands I cannae mind; The Wonderstuff + The Men They Couldn't Hang; Yer Maw + ???, Zodiac Mindwarp + The Deadly Romantics + Jack Glass + Peepshow.... That Radio 1 Dundee thing – er, Muse… Wickerman – The Alarm, Arthur Brown, Beyond All Reason, Big Strides, Ella Bell, Fuck Off Machete, Kid Ego, Samba YA Bamba, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, never did find out what the others were called for sure…

Since uni: Alice Cooper; The Darkness + Ash; Divine Comedy; The Driven; Gorrillaz; Hell is for Heroes + ???; Jim Bob; Medieval Babes; Picturehouse; Pixies; PJ Harvey; PWEI (at Nottingham AND Birmingham); Red Hot Chili Peppers; Rolling Stones; Shirehorses; Sisters of Mercy (once with Compulsion, I think); Smashing Pumpkins; Terrorvision; Wildhearts; Yer Maw; Zoot and the Suits;

(Leeds ‘05) All-American Rejects, Biffy Clyro, Charlatans, Dinosaur Jr, Editors, Foo Fighters, Kasabian (I think) Kings of Leon, Razorlight.

Uni: Afghan Whigs; Attica Rage + Surge; Billy Bragg; Blue Aeroplanes + A House; Buffalo Tom; Chumbawamba; Cornershop; Credit to the Nation (about four hundred times); The Cult; Curve; The Damned + Gin Goblins + Bones Jack; Girls Against Boys; James + Radiohead; Killing Joke; Levellers; Manic Street Preachers; NIN + Pig; Pavement; Primal Scream; The Posies; PWEI; RATM + Tool + Wool; Royal Trux; Siouxie and the Banshees; Sleeper; Sugar; Therapy? (twice and backstage both times, hurrah!); They Might Be Giants.

Glastonbury ’94 – ’02 inclusive (missed ’97 I think…) - Tori Amos, Back to the Planet, Beastie Boys, Bootleg Beatles, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Chemical Brothers, Corky & the Juice Pigs, Counting Crows, Echo and the Bunnymen, Inspiral Carpets, Fatboy Slim, Feeder, Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, Fun Lovin Criminals, Garbage, Leftfield, Levellers, Moby, The Music, No Doubt, Oasis, Offspring, Page & Plant, remains of Pink Floyd, Portishead, Pulp, Radiohead, REM, Rolf Harris, Senser, Skunk Anansie, The Streets, Sonic Youth, Stone Temple Pilots, Supergrass, Travis, Suzanne Vega, White Stripes… damn, can’t remember ANYTHING of these 6? 7? festivals?

(Reading ’93) - Back to the Planet, Babes in Toyland, Bivouac, Blur, Boo Radleys, Breeders, Dinosaur Jr, Drop Nineteens, Fishbone, Flaming Lips, Frank & Walters, Grant Lee Buffalo, Green Apple Quickstep, I Mother Earth; Juliana Hatfield Trio, Madder Rose, Ozric Tentacles, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, Porno for Pyros, RATM, Shampoo, Senseless Things, Tool.

(Possibles) Kasabian, Mercury Rev, Orbital, Prodigy, Queens of the Stone Age, Semisonic, Soundgarden, the Verve – I honestly cannot remember! (How crap) I THINK so…

If anyone’s accompanied me to any gigs I’ve forgot, let me know!
MoviesI have really shite taste in movies! Pineapple Express, Balls of Fury, Shaolin Soccer, Fear of a Black Hat, Hercules Returns, Spaceballs, Withnail & I, Shaun of the Dead, Dog Soldiers, 28 Days Later, Battle Royale, Labyrinth, Aliens, erm, any Michael Biehn vehicle really... you can't accuse me of intellectualism! Oh and martial arts flicks! Go Jackie Chan!
TelevisionFuturama, Simpsons, Spaced, Teachers, Black Books ... er, I notice a pattern here. And nature programmes. Sad, but true.
BooksI endorse Michael Marshall Smith, Cordwainer Smith, Kim Newman and China Mieville. Many authors I like, few I love though! I like ancient history and science and biology tomes and comedy and sci-fi and fantasy as long as it's not anything by Anne Rice or Piers Anthony (not making any friends here, hee) but will give almost anything a go. Just... not too much chic-lit, please, I can only read so many stories about some dizzy secretary being saved from her credit card bills by a deus ex machina. Because I have to sort mine the old-fashioned way!
HeroesOoh, loads. Anyone who's done something to change the world (for the better), or taken a big chance in following their dream (especially if it all went tits up but they weren't bitter!)

   Beshemoth's Blurbs
About me:
As a one-sentence summary: general space-cadet and drama queen. Yeah sure, other people actually DO interesting things, but thanks to a healthy imagination and overwhelming sense of entitlement, I can make a trip down the shops sound worse than an overland hike across Asia. Sadly, it turns out there is nothing I can get up to that is so inept, misguided or downright embarassing that I can resist the temptation to tell everyone about it for cheap laughs. After years of giving examples of my astounding gormlessness to my mates, I was quite miffed to see they had all taken me at my word.

In other news: Scottish chick. No muscial ability whatsoever, slight 'artistic' pretensions, great love of gossip, humour, music, sarcasm and very bad movies.

At the moment my spare time's all about fighting, shooting, gigs, engineering, guerilla gardening, pencil portraits, climbing mountains, wind turbines, industrial music and wine, but any and all of that could be different by next month. Probably not the wine, actually.
Who I'd like to meet:
People! People I agree with, people I disagree with, mainly folk who'll make me laugh. Or think. Or whatever.

Just to let you know, my short story collection “A History of Sarcasm” is now available to buy. (It’s great, by the way.)

You can get it from www.doghorn.com

More details on my website, www.frankburton.co.uk

“The writer William Burroughs once called language “a virus from outer space”, and there’s a sense of that in A History of Sarcasm, where Burton holds words up to the sun and lets the light shine through them.”
