Bio
The life story that created the evocative vocal and songwriting style of Bess McCrary began in North Carolina. At the age of four, Miss McCrary began to sing, dance, and fabricate stories quite successfully, which led to the obvious and precocious ambition of being a professional performer. Performing in numerous television commercials, musicals and plays as a child and teenager, Bess moved on to study Classical Voice at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Having obtained her degree and multiple professional regional opera roles, Bess moved to New York City in 2002. Shortly thereafter, Miss McCrary began singing lead jazz vocals for The Blue Saracens, a 13-piece swing band, performing at such NYC venues as Swing 46, Columbus 72, and the now-shuttered Jack’s Joint. Miss McCrary has also performed at these venues with her own band, The Drinks Are Cheap, which is an 8-10 piece little big band focused on her own original songwriting. Miss McCrary regularly records at 10X10 Music studios, and also has a jazz trio. While on the bandstand, Miss McCrary has performed in the company of many notable musicians, including Dave Cook, Shayna Steele, Dominick Farinacci, and Jumanne Smith, and Alan Ferber, to name a few. Bess looks forward to a further exploration of her original songs and to cultivate her charming, provocative, and theatrical performance style while here in New York City and on tour throughout the States.
