Musical ennui begat Beta Project here in the bastion of freedom and democracy during the early months of 2005. Adam Satariano and Amol Sharma, two young Washington journalists, decided to meld their musical and songwriting passions. Adam brought a funky, hard-strumming guitar style and powerful vocals. Amol added jazzy and bluesy guitar leads, and Indian classical percussion (tabla). To complete the soulful, jazz and rock-infused acoustic sound they were aiming for, they turned to two of Amol's longtime musical buddies. Sarada Peri builds catchy melodic foundations on upright and electric bass, drawing on years of classical and jazz training. Moni Shah, an energy consultant by day, adds rich and inviting lead vocals and well-crafted backup harmonies. Like a generation of iPod users, Beta Project feels at ease shuffling through different musical genres, whether it's blues, rock, soul, jazz, Indian classical or folk. All get their turn at a festive Beta Project show.
