The short version: for many years I struggled to write my first novel. Before that learning journalism on the job was no easy feat. For both kinds of writing, I spent plenty of hours staring at the blank page. I know intimately what it's like to desire to write but feel so absolutely stymied. I had to find ways to get past the blocks. Eventually I did, and translated those tips and tricks for you in my digital writing guide, Overcome Writer's Block: 10 Writing Sparks to Ignite Your Creativity.
I've always been inspired to help other writers, so fast forward to today, where I have the privilege of helping my clients bring their writing dreams into reality as a Creativity Coach to Writers, Artists and Business Professionals.
A Strong Story Telling Desire
A little background for those who want the longer version: I've been writing stories since I was seven years old, when I wrote with my brother a story about our cats. At thirteen, I began keeping a journal that I keep to this day. And at that age, I was blessed with a fabulous eighth-grade teacher (thanks Mrs. Maffei!) who had us do all kinds of writing assignments, fiction, nonfiction, comedic, dramatic. I loved these assignments, even though they were hard! I knew then that writing was something I was good at, and most importantly, enjoyed.
The very next year in ninth grade, my first year of high school, I was sorely disappointed by the uninspired teaching of my English teacher because she offered us no fun and challenging assignments in writing. I vowed that year that one day I would be an excellent writing teacher and do my best to inspire my students to go father, reach higher, and excel in ways that had barely dreamt of.
