   About Beth Boucher

"The ebullient New Englander offers clever lyrics and smart arrangements to go with her friendly, bouncy voice...pure pop, and a pleasure." (Paste Magazine)

"It’s pretty tough to not develop an appreciation, if not a liking, for Beth Boucher after hearing this CD...she has conjured up some of the catchiest folk/pop ever heard." (Boston Soundcheck)

"this is as good as it gets." (The Noise)

"the Beantown babe's self-deprecating wit and sing-along hooks make this better than most stuff you'll hear on mainstream radio" (NOW Magazine)

"The most striking thing about 'Elusive Thing,' the opening track, is the clarity of Boucher’s voice. The album’s title track almost forces you to sing along to the chorus, while the upbeat melody is peppered by Boucher’s quirky, funny lyrics. It’s too damn fun...I’m plotting a way to make this copy part of my private stash." (York County Coast Star)

Beth Boucher (boo-shay) is a Boston-based singer/songwriter whose full-length debut, Mess You Up, was produced by Peter Prilesnik (Sarah Harmer, Great Big Sea) and features an all-star lineup of musicians, including Luke Doucet (Sarah McLachlan) and Kurt Swinghammer (Ani DiFranco). With her clear, honest voice, witty lyrics, and varied, rich arrangements, Beth offers a collection of tunes that don't fit neatly into folk, pop, or indie rock, but cross genres, and add random bits of country, punk, and Latin jazz to boot.

Beth's first guitar was acquired during college in Maine, when a desperate friend traded her a taped-up Yamaha in exchange for ten dollars and some beer. She taught herself some chords and played the local college haunts, as well as a former chicken coop turned radio station owned by Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary fame. Beth stepped into the vibrant Boston music scene with her four-song eponymous EP, which was quickly placed in heavy rotation on college radio stations in and around Boston and as far west as California. Beth's song "Elusive Thing," which has since been re-arranged and re-recorded for the new album, was featured on The Best of Boston Singer/Songwriters Volume 2 compilation cd, resulting in even greater exposure and awareness.

Beth has been building a strong following playing clubs throughout New England and the Northeast, including The House of Blues and The Bitter End, with her "ridiculously good-looking band," as well as more intimate venues as a solo artist with her acoustic guitar. When she steps on stage, she engages the audience with humor, energy, intelligence, and passion. She is wide open, presenting herself with no pretention, weaving wit with the irrepressible optimism of her lyrics as she rides with grace over life's little bumps.

Hi Beth,

I saw your name on a user's "Listmania" list at Amazon and of course had to check it out. You see we have the same last name, so it got my attention.

Glad to see you pronounce it "correctly", unlike Butterfly Boucher! Just kidding I love her too.

I checked out your music and liked it quite a bit, I've been downloading them at iTunes. Good stuff!
