After graduating from Berklee College of Music, where she was among the first to study Pop Songwriting, singer-songwriter Beth Sass moved to Nashville from Boston, collaborating with some of the "greats" of the songwriting industry. She has been staff writer for Maypop Music Group, had material signed to Sony/Tree Publishing, with songs included in the catalogues of Zomba Enterprises, Pride Music Group/Warner Chappell Music, and Soundgarden Music. She owes much of her well-honed craft to her long-term co-writer: award-winning/platinum-selling lyricist Don Pfrimmer (Tim McGraw, Diamond Rio, Ronnie Milsap, Lonestar, Sylvia, etc)
While writing and performing her own music, Beth played piano bars from one side of the country to the other, and toured the USA and Caribbean as keyboardist for Herb Reed and the Platters, The Coasters, The Drifters, The Crystals, The Shangri-Lah’s, and many other acts from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s.
In 2002, Beth released her first CD, “Seven Songs”, produced and engineered at Soundwave Studio, Nashville, by Richard Adler (Allison Krauss/Neil Young/Natalie Cole, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, Marty Stuart). In his own words: "Real musicians playing real drums, bass, and guitars provide an earthy palette of support, all the while staying within the bounds of elegant simplicity and focus on Beth's words. A breath of fresh air to those who are tired of drum machines and unreal, unidentifiable synthesized instruments."
Stand-out song “Stampede” was picked by ShutEye Records to be featured on their 2005 Compilation “United State of Americana” .According to Ryan Hoffer, A&R, Shut Eye Records, Inc,: "Upon listening to "Seven Songs", I was reminded of that honest, organic sound similar to that of artists like Mary Lou Lord or Patti Smith. That being said, you are able to maintain your individuality by blending a myriad of influences and forging an eclectic take on the singer/songwriter genre. This can definitely be heard in songs like "I Forgive Myself" and "Dying Breed". I love the twangy Emerson, Lake and Palmer-ishintro in "I Forgive Myself". This wry little shanty then continues via crisp acoustics atop drving cadence- very catchy.I must say, though, that "Stampede" is probably my favorite song off the album. Again, another flawless intro with escalating electric lead atop the backing guitars. This song has just the type of melody that leaves an impression on first-time listeners. All in all, "Seven Songs" radiates with pastoral goodness and boasts of proficient songwriting. RW Shamy of Twangcast.com called it the "best cross-section of Americana" he'd ever heard on one disc.
Also from the album “Seven Songs”, song “Naomi” became 1 Ranking , Track of the Day, and Track of the Week on Garageband ‘s Folk/Country Chart. “Rites of Spring” and “Bed of Nails” achieved strong rotation on CountryBear Internet Radio.
In 2004 Beth was invited to teach music at the preschool and elementary level. Using the artist-in-residence model, she initiated a hands-on general music program integrating music literacy with intensive creative mentoring, including opt-in real-life performing Pop vocal groups for various ages with year-round community-wide appearances. In 2006, Beth participated in Tennesee Arts Academy, a cutting-edge professional development program for Music, Fine Arts, and Theater Educators.
2007-2008 marked the funding, designing, and building of a permanent music learning and rehearsal space to house Beth’s music program at Akiva School in Nashville, TN.. 2007 also marked Beth’s entrance into the Truro, Cape Cod, MA Art and Music scene as visiting teacher at the Truro Library Summer Program(http://trurolibrary.org/calendar/debussy.htm).
Beth also maintains another role as an innovative leader in the field of integrated fitness and creative and archetypal counseling/mentoring, through which she currently serves in individual and group settings. As an adjunct group leader in Nashville, Tennessee, Beth works closely with clients who are looking to extend their recovery past the traditional stay and past the traditional 12-Step boundaries.
