Songwriter and performer Beth Tait writes music that captures the gritty emotional damage of the human heart … and stomps all over it. She is loud. She is brass. She is sexy, raw, sensitive and compassionate. She is the girl next door. With a gun.
The daughter of maritime artist R.F. (Ronnie) Hawkins, Beth was born in Caledonia, Nova Scotia and raised in Halifax by a decidedly unmusical family.
At ten her Gran recruited her to funeral duty (she still does a mean 'Beyond the Sunset'). By 14 she was running away with her posse on a regular basis, though she never missed a music lesson. In fact, she was twice awarded the prestigious Frederick Harris Silver Medal by The Royal Conservatory of Music - once with a broken arm.
For the last ten years she has made her home in New Brunswick's beautiful Saint John River Valley where she has performed in churches, legions, community halls, high schools and lots and lots of bars, playing and singing classic rock, blues, country and folk, all the while squeezing in as many of her originals as possible along the way.
