Her pencil struck the lucky page at an age you may not expect- and it wouldn't stop with wit or words as you maybe might have guessed. Come melody and harmony, a guitar from a friendly stranger, and this young lady plucked the strings with upright tumbling after. From farm to overseas to city, the melodies surround her- splashing out wherever she fair of hope and loss and laughter...
"The songs I write are honest and are pulled from a heart that aches for love and simplicity. I use music as an instrument of hope, peace, and to find joy."
Beth began song-writing at 16 when a gentleman handed her a guitar at church. She went home and delighted for hours (now years) at how words and melody and yank you around, calm you down, or rev you up for the last lap round.
When Beth began jamming with Aaron Fishburn at Whitworth College in late 2004, the sound fused folky reflective song-writer with his toe-tappin, jazzy upright bass. Soon, the pair took home first place at a YMCA talent contest in Shoreline, WA, and second place at their college's 'Pirate Idol.' Since then, they have frequented many a farmer's market, state fair, wedding ceremony, and a northwest tour in the Spring of 2008.
After recording 'Leave Your Shoes' at Malamute Studios in Seattle, the pair are ready to record their next full length album with, what Beth Whitney says, 'are probably the best songs we have ever written. We've finally got our sea-legs on.'
Beth’s latest offering, Leave Your Shoes, is a gem of an album that artfully weaves both dreamy and energetic acoustic folk-pop melodies you’ll soon find yourself humming like old favorites. Her milky-sweet vocals and personal magnetism can turn the most unlikely listeners into fans. Leave Your Shoes’ well-wrought musings range from a love’s first butterflies (“Kickin’ Pinecones”) to angsty, post-teen self-reflection (“Miss Misery”), from time spent in prayer (“Busy Bee”) to the tragedy of a loved one taken before his time (“Lights Out”).
A self-taught guitarist, Beth’s own musical heroine, and a great influence on her sound, is Mindy Smith, “She has a beautiful soul and writes/sings songs that can just rip me to pieces”. She considers her other influences to include artist Jennifer Knapp, hip-hop soulster Lauryn Hill and jazz great Diana Krall.

Your wedding was beautiful! I have to say, even though it was probably somewhat horrifying for you, Netti's story seriously took the cake. I'm still laughing about it at random moments.

My dietary restriction is that I only eat things that have a "Mc" in front of them, or that have been purchased from a popular place you might have heard of called "Manuels".
Beth! I JUST found out today that you're getting married! I want to hear all about it (how it happened, how big it'll be, your dress) as I won't be there! I guess this means there will be a Mr. Taco now! I miss you a ton! Kristen
Hi Beth! I miss you, too. No trains come through McCall...but there's a greyhound and an airport here. You should visit, I think you'd like my little town:) Otherwise, I'll be home around Christmas:)
