Biography for betsy spivak
Betsy Spivak is not the girl next door. Actually her life, thus far, has been far from ordinary. Currently she lives in Philadelphia, but Betsy has spent most of her life moving back & forth between Pennsylvania & California, bringing with her experiences & opportunities that have shaped her outlook on life and passionate relationship with music. As a songwriter & musician, (piano, guitar, a little trumpet, some flute, & of course, the recorder), not only does Betsy have an outlet to channel her emotions but also an arena to foster her love of performing.
Betsy has shared the stage with such artists as Martha Wainwright, Phil Roy, Keller Williams, & even Molly Hatchet at such venues as: The Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, The Mint is Los Angeles, Kendall Café in Boston, IC Light Amphitheatre in Pittsburgh and The Tweeter Center in New Jersey. She has played the Pennsylvania County Fair; Jam on the River as well as for The Philadelphia AIDS Walk and The Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation.
Described as, An interesting alternative to indie rock coupled with hauntingly beautiful melodies & a wry sense of humor.
The Scratch on my Vinyl Soul is the follow-up to bellysweet, Betsys highly acclaimed debut CD. The Scratch on my Vinyl Soul takes its title from a painting by California artist, Leticia Sigel. The first 5 tracks were produced by Pete Donnelly, (The Figgs, Graham Parker, Death Vessel) at Palais Royale in Bryn Mawr PA. Donnelly not only played on all tracks, but brought in Scott Bricklin & Matt Muir (Ben Arnold, 4 Way Street) to highlight Betsys songwriting rather than to eclipse her music.
The last 3 tracks, including a 2nd version of Midnight at the Whirly Bar, were a quick add on, produced by Betsy & Chris Brownie Brown and recorded by Jesse Honig (McGowan, Graham Parker) at Miriam Audio in Manayunk. The arrangements on these tracks are a little more sparse and stripped down.
The Scratch on my Vinyl Soul will be released June 8th, 2006
on Covegirl Records and will be available online at www.CDbaby.com and check her website, www.betsyspivak.com for news, updates and
for a retail store near you.
Betsy will be celebrating with a Rip Roaring CD Release Party
Thursday June 8th at 8:00pm at LEtage in Philadelphia.
