Beyond Despair - Progressive Melodic Death/Doom Metal
Beyond Despair was formed in January 2006 by bassist/vocalist Joe MacGreagor and ex-guitarist/drummer/vocalist Connor McCorran through their mutual appreciation of music and interests. In February of that year keyboardist/vocalist Jaime Cross was invited to the band after various discussions with the original two members.
In August 2007 Connor excused himself from the band as he felt he did not have enough interest in the project, and vocalist Jeni Thomson, a friend of Joe and Connor, was brought in. Later in the year, guitarist Alan Stares of Burning Earth was drafted in on guitar duties and to help handle the recording of the first demo, a work that has been in progress since March of the band's founding year.
Now led by Jaime, the band strive to create songs with a sound that can instantly be attributed to them. With infulences raging across the metal spectrum, as well as other sources, they take notes of Doom, Death and Progressive metal and mix them with Gothic, Jazz and Classical stylings, brought together with lyrics that paint images of bleakness and horror with their tales of death, romance and nightmares.
Aside from this band, Joe can be found playing in Alba gu Bráth, a folk metal band, Alan is the band leader of Burning Earth, which combines the epic sounds of Wintersun and Lost Horizon with that of Meshuggah and Death, while Jaime appears in both, as well as having his own side projects.
