Skater Appreciation Day April 28, 2007
The celebration will include giveaways for attending skaters, feature demonstrations by area teams, offer clinics for skaters and promote safety in the skate park.
The park will be closed to open skating from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. as BG Parks & Rec invites Blue Wallace and twelve of their skate team members to conduct clinics for interested skaters. The lessons will include basic skills and tricks suitable for all ages of inexperienced to moderately skilled skaters. Only skaters participating in the free clinics will be permitted in the park during that hour.
At 10 a.m. the gates open to all skaters and the first 400 will receive a packet of gift certificates and coupons from a number of local businesses. The first 1000 will receive a gift certificate from Outer Loop. Everyone will receive a free raffle ticket for a variety of items being given away that include shirts, decks, complete decks, inline skates and an iPod shuffle. Revolution 91.7 will feature their favorite music as raffle winners are announced throughout the event. Donating businesses include: Blue Wallace, Greenwood Skate Center, Great Escape, Howard's Cycling and Fitness, Outer Loop, Print Mafia, The Place and more.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by the BG Parks and Recreation tent and fuel up with a free hotdog or hamburger and a drink. During this time Chad Anthony will provide commentary on the mike as area skate teams are showcased. Featured teams include skateboard, bmx and inline teams sponsored by Bowling Green shops like Blue Wallace, Howard's Cycling and Fitness and Outer Loop as well as independent teams and teams from other communities that will use the park. Skill levels demonstrated by the teams range from moderately experienced to highly technical. All skill levels will be featured as the opening of the new park where they will hone their skills for years to come is celebrated.
Skate Appreciation Day is a celebration of xtreme sports enthusiasts and the end of their long wait for a facility where they are free to practice their skills. The Bowling Green Skate Park is restricted to skateboards, bmx and inline skates. Skaters should know basic skills before attempting to skate on even the easiest portions of the park. For the safety of everyone Heely's, mountain bikes, scooters and other rolling toys or sports equipment are NEVER PERMITTED in the park. All concrete is intended to be skateable surface and spectators should confine themselves to the grass surrounding the park to avoid becoming hazardous obstacles.
