I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. I have done something," He replied. "I created you." ~The Animals' Savior Copyright Jim Willis 1999
The Humane Society is an independent, non-profit agency contracted by Warren County to operate the animal shelter, which we moved into in 1983. The Humane Society is not a department of city or county government. The city and county own the shelter building. The Humane Society receives funds from city and county governments to operate the shelter. This funding is used to pay for management/employee salaries, utility bills, cleaning supplies/chemicals, euthanasia solution, cat litter, fuel for rescue vehicles and building repairs/maintenance. Humane Society DONATIONS are used to pay for medical care of sick and injured animals, animal cages, incidental supplies such as food/water bowls, dog/cat treats, canned cat/dog food, dog/cat toys, supplies for fund raisers and education/outreach programs. Hill's Pet Products donates dog, cat, kitten and puppy food.
The Humane Society's mission is to provide a clean comfortable shelter for homeless, abused, lost and impounded animals of our community; to place as many of these animals as possible in loving and responsible homes and humanely euthanize those not adopted; to investigate complaints of animal abuse/neglect; and to educate the public about responsible care of companion animals, ESPECIALLY SPAY/NEUTER!

Did You Know?
That according to the HSUS:
*Average number of litters a fertile cat can produce in one year: 3
*Average number of kittens in a feline litter: 4?6
*In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.
*Average number of litters a fertile dog can produce in one year: 2
*Average number of puppies in a canine litter: 6-10
* In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs.
You can help end this needless tragedy. Please spay or neuter your pets and pass the word along..
What can you do to stop the suffering?
Spay and neuter your pet! In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.

Volunteer Opportunities
..
We need more volunteers to walk dogs and spend time with the animals at the shelter. Many dogs are housebroken, but don't even get out once a day. Other dogs could become housebroken if they were taken out each day. A form is used to keep track of which dogs have been out each day. We would like volunteers to schedule their time so there are enough volunteers each day. Volunteer manuals are available at the shelter and online. It is helpful if you can read the volunteer and shelter help manuals before volunteering. New volunteers need to schedule an orientation and/or be matched with an experienced volunteer. Please contact Michelle Hunt if you are interested in volunteering or need more information.
You must be 18 or over to fill out an online application or join the online volunteer group. Volunteers under 18 must come to shelter with parent or guardian to complete volunteer application and sign liability form. All volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them when volunteering at the shelter. Parents or guardians would need to attend orientation and training when required for certain activities. We hope to have more volunteer opportunities for youth in the future.
If you are interested in helping , please fill out one of our online volunteer applications!!! If you are in another state but want to help w/ transporting animals to rescue & forever homes, please fill one out!
I love the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society! I've made it my goal in life to save as many people as possible. You have made it yours to save animals like me every day! And you don't even need a super energy pill! Keep up the good work!
I just want to thank the staff and the vets of the BGWC humane society for being so good and thoughtful when I brought Jersey in to be spayed an Dec 19. I am so glad that you offer the lower rate on the clinic, hopefully people will take advantage of it can get their pets fixed.
Amen to the not breeding. Here in Logan County we have the same problem. I am currently taking care of six stray kittens that are wild. Our human society will not come and get them and if they are not tame then they will kill them. I hate it cause the ones I take care of are from a family that just up and left their pets without any of them being spayed or neutered. I own three cats (indoors) that are all spayed and neutered. One of them was a stray, one we found under a house at 2 weeks old (the mom had been killed) and one we got from a friend. I wouldn't trade any of them for the world.I love them but people that don't take care of their animals just make me so mad!!!! Sorry!!!! Just venting. I wish I could adopt them all.
I hope you have a blessed day! Keep up the good work that you do! I am praying for all the volunteers there!
I hope Truman and I did you all proud on the Today Show today! I continue to be grateful for all your efforts - we all know that shelter dogs and cats are the BEST around. Keep saving them and God Bless you all!
