Another month, another show, another name, another face....hbc is a temporary art space located in the former House of Hungarian Culture at Alexanderplatz, Berlin. What was once a place for alternative cinema and liberal thoughts in the former GDR is now one of the last off-spaces at Berlin Alexanderplatz, an area which is increasingly shaped by commercial interests.
Set up by a group of artists and curators, .hbc offers 1800 sqm of floorspace for artistic production and presentation. Working with guest curators, as well as established and emerging artists, .hbc presents changing constellations of contemporary art and culture.
Within its first three months, .hbc has realised projects with more than 140 artists, ranging from fine arts to performing arts, filmscreenings and concerts, with more than 10,000 visitors.
.hbc is currently seeking to extend it’s activities into 2009.
On Friday 28 November, .hbc will unveil the first of four consecutive running shows.
For the upcoming exhibition, .hbc will present the works of 57 artists. Gallery founders Christoper (Kollektiv Berlin) and Daniel (airgarten) have been invited as guest curators and will explore the complex relationship between politics and space through the lens of various artistic positions.
The Lobby space will accomodate a solo presentation of Croatian artist Lovro
