.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ........Get Your Own Visitor Globe!....< p> p> ...... .. .. .. .. .. .... .... .. .. .. .. .. .. ........ .. It has been an incredible journey for the Band Bi Beò since they began their music in the kitchen so to speak in 2007. At that time there were no band just two enthusiastic singer songwriters, James and Kevin who desired to try something different with the Gaelic language. What was important to them was to try and develop new sounds using the native language of the islands and the influences of the environment. They began to write new songs and the first test of their capabilities came at the Seo Seinn competition in Stornoway in 2007. A competition for new songs in the Gaelic language... Entering the competition was quite nerve racking for the duo but with 6 new songs to play with they entered and were third in one competition with the song Na Seann Daoine. The following evening they played two songs live on Radio Nan Gaidheal and the sound of Bi Beò hit the airwaves... ...... ..Since the launch of Bi Beò onto the music scene the band has gone from strength to strength and played in The Pan Celtic Festival in Donegal, The Irish Festival in Akraness, Iceland , Live at the Edge in Barra, Inverness, Skye and the Isle of Harris and the Uists. These venues and festivals have enabled the band to develop and test their style and sound to new audiences and as a result developed their own unique brand of Gaelic rock.. .. The songs on both albums are a reflection of island and Highland life from dancing to the beauty of love, nature , the elements , the harshness of isolation and abandonment. Many songs carry a messages of love and youthful exuberence and reflections of childhood memories of growing up in the Hebrides. ........ .. The debut Album “Beo an Duil” which was launched in March 2008 features 10 brand new tracks which were written, composed and produced in Uist by James MacLetchie and Kevin De Las Casas and all the songs contain the traditional roots of gaelic music and culture. The album was recorded at the Media Hebrides Studios in North Uist... .. .......... .. Inside the album cover all the lyrics are in Gaelic and English enabling all listeners to learn the songs and to encourage learners of our language to see the words as they are written and be able to follow the tracks on the CD......... .. The new album "Ma Sgaoil" will be out in a few weeks time and the band are excited as it contains 13 very different tracks which are influenced by hip hop, reggae, dance rock and our audiences at our gigs. The album has been informed by live gigs and the reaction from the first album. It's a more up-tempo and aggressive sound, with new musical treatments and styles. Fans are already hailing this new album and the music as something special and a recent posting on the bands website stated........ .. ............ • Influences

.... .. .. .. .. .. ................ There is also the element of detachement deep in the roots of some of the songs which so often affects remote communities and a sense of isolation which at times can be so overpowering as to take us into the darkest recesses of the mind. Only by experiencing and expressing through music have the band been able to identiify and embrace their culture and language and its value in everyones life......... .. At the early roots of of Bi Beó was Runrig and the songs of Calum and Ruairidh MacDonald from Lochmaddy. Their music and songs were an inspiration for many years and the catalyst needed to inspire the new song writings of Bi Beó. Having written over 130 songs since they began with Runrig, they are indeed worthy of high praise and admiration for their songwritng talents, which has enabled the Gaelic language to flourish in a very contemporary way........... Monty Halls Guest Appearance .. Today Bi Beó have moved away from those influences and began to forge their own brand of Gaelic music enabeling the band to express and experiment with different genres and with the language........... The challenge for the band has been to continually develop their music and not sit in an easy groove where the challenges are not there. This is a band which thrives on challenges both vocally and musically and in the new album due out at the end of July the band have certainly risen to that challenge. ..
  • Sounds Like

.......... The Music of Bi Beó takes you on a journey into the Outer Hebrides and beyond and into the heart of an island at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a unique experience and something completley different to any other Gaelic music on the market. ..Bi Beó are not your normal band playing the usual traditional Hebridean music. This is a band which prefers to test the boundaries and expanding the musical appeal of the Gaelic language by taking their music into many different genres as the latest album Ma Sgaoil clearly demonstrates. For the band the rhythms of nature are similar to those of different cultures and the fusion of these cultures and the Gaelic one is fascinating and very appealing to the band. .. ...... .. Bi Beó sounds like no other Gaelic band and are pleased to have developed their own unique sound. While initial influences came from Runrig the band have moved beyond that influence and made their own way. It is always difficult to play original music and to break through at home has been virtually impossible for the band, but on the other hand their music has been greatly received by audiences across the world and that is a fantastic feeling........... Bi Beó strongly believes that the Gaelic language is alive and well and its continued presence in our lives and island community's is so important, even vital. Bi Beó is about energy and dance and recent Latin experiences have seen the band develop further their unique sound. The creation of the music of Bi Beó is the releasing of their creative energies which enables them to reach out across the oceans with their new brand of Gaelic sounds. Bi Beó continue to support and promote their Gaelic culture and have stayed true to their language when it could have been so easy to play in English. For Bi Beó the challenges of making the Gaelic language modern and sexy to as wide a range of people is one of the key drivers and the challenge of such a task is never ending. For now the band are enjoying their music and continuing to write many new tracks and are already in the process of writing their third album. ........ .. Bi Beó has its own original sound and material and strives to encapsulate the very essence of the Hebrides and Gaelic society anywhere through its music and songs and hopes that wherever this music is heard it will inspire all to seek out these shores and to Bi Beó(be alive).. ........................
