British born Bianca has been musically influenced since a young age. Artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, Steele Pulse, UB40, Marvin Gaye and Barry White were played on the turntables at home. She has explained how while her mother was pregnant with her, her father would put earphones on her belly and play the Steele Pulse, Handsworth Revolution album over and over. Years later, he dug out that same album and played it and was surprised to hear that Bianca new every word. She was born to sing!
In 1998, Bianca joined a local reggae band called Respect where she sang background and occasional lead vocals. While the band was short lived, it gave her the stepping stone to get into the music business. After her time with ‘Respect’, Bianca joined a local reggae/calypso band called ‘Aktivate’ singing background and lead vocals. She attained experience by traveling and performing at larger shows than she was used to. In 2000, she sang with ‘Aktivate’ at Carifest in Calgary, Alberta while opening for Anslem Douglas. Later that year they performed for 5,000 plus people at the Labatt Brier in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
After a year of singing with ‘Aktivate’ Bianca had the urge to travel. She decided to take time out and return to her roots in England where she worked full time at a local photo lab. In the evenings and on the weekends she wrote poems and songs and exercised her voice. She discovered some English artists such as Kofi, Carroll Thompson and Shola Ama who inspired her to pursue a solo singing career.
A year later, she returned to Calgary where she attended Business College. In her spare time, she concentrated on her music. She traveled to Toronto and recorded her first single ‘Eternity’, which she wrote. Soon after, she recorded her second single ‘At Last’ where she had the opportunity to travel and record in Jamaica; an ultimate dream come true. Both singles were played consistently on Calgary radio stations, CJSW 90.9fm, Caribbean Linkup and Level the Vibes, CHRY 105.5 fm and CHIN fm in Toronto along with stations in New York and World Wide FM in England. ‘At Last’ was steadily number 3 on the radio charts for several months in Canada. Bianca’s music is frequently played by local Calgary Sound Systems. She has earned a reputation as a professional artist and is acknowledged by her loyal fans not only in her home city of Calgary, but also throughout Canada and abroad.
In March of 2003, Bianca was invited to perform at the 19th Annual Canadian Reggae Music Awards in Toronto. In front of a packed house with an array of veterans in the music business, Bianca took to the stage as a pro singing her first original work ‘Eternity’. The evening was fulfilled for her when she received the award for ‘Top Female Reggae Newcomer’ for 2002, sharing the stage with Eric ‘Monty’ Morris and Pamela Maynard.
During 2003 / 2004 Bianca performed at several events in Calgary and also made an appearance at the Calgary International Reggae Festival a.k.a. ‘Reggae Fest’. In the spring of 2004 she released her single ‘Heaven’, a Bryan Adams remake, produced by IBO and Smokey Room Productions, which stirred up the airwaves and kept her in the limelight while she took a hiatus to enjoy becoming a new mother. ‘Heaven’ is still one of the most requested songs on Canadian radio and is in regular rotation on the Jammin’ channel on Max Trax digital TV which is heard nationally and on the web. In 2006 after popular demand, Bianca performed at ‘Reggae Fest’ once again. A year later, she felt that she was ready to go full force with her singing and get back into the studio, recording her rendition of Bob Marley’s ‘Who the Cap Fit’.
Currently, Bianca is working with Calgary Dancehall Reggae Artist and Producer, Vex Cobo. In April 2008, she released a Bon Jovi cover, ‘You Wanna Make a Memory’. She is very proud of this particular track as she was Co-Executive Producer. At the same time she launched her website www.biancareggae.com . A few weeks later, she visited England and performed with the UB40 Tribute Band, ‘Rats in the Kitchen’. While in London, she was marketing her fresh, new single and website. During the past couple of months, Bianca has also been working on some new projects with Lucky Dragon Music out of Toronto.
