Big Filthy Jazz is a Leeds based music collective, formed to help new bands playing original improvised music get together, pooling creative as well as administrative and marketing skills. The bands in the collective presently range from melodic contemporary jazz, via groove based jazz-rock to free improv. The only common denominator is that the material is original and the music improvised.

Don't forget tomorrow (Tue 14) the Moose Factory comes to Leeds at the Brudenell Social Club featuring Matt Elliott (Balkan folk with technical wizardry) + Benjamin Wetherill (English whimsy with freakout sax) + 7 Hertz (chamber folk improv). 8pm. £4 if you follow the link:
"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine

PLUMMER’S WORLD SANGUINE REPORT World Sanguine Report were forged together to sound the notes penned by Andrew Plummer. Featuring innovative musicians from both the London and Leeds jazz and new music scenes; they form a frightening and formidable ensemble; strength and beauty, heavy as lead. Plummer who “is quite clearly a deranged swamp beast trapped inside the body of an Englishman” (Wrath Records) pens music that reinterprets musical genre through juxtaposition of compositional techniques, cut throat improvisations and song. Drawing on a wealth of influences (Kagel, Scelsci, Beefheart, Messiaen, Waits, Patton to name but a few), the result is a violent, beautiful journey through the undergrowth of ‘gauzlin web stuck stick’. 7-man romp, 3 parts Bilbao Syndrome, feat. J. Allsopp, A. Bonney, M. Bourne; T. Greenhalgh; D. Kane; A. Plummer; C. Sharkey. www. andrewplummer. co. uk
MUCKY SAILOR Mucky Sailor are a father and son duo who make undesirable pop music via piano, synthesiser, drums and vocals. Over their two year existence many derisive comments have been made about their terrifyingly unremarkable physiques and amateurish onstage squabbles. Others have employed comparison and rhetoric to describe them as some kind of cross between the indulgent prog of Yes, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and the Butthole Surfers whilst simultaneously being ‘toweringly subversive’, ‘a mangled moterway pile-up of noise’ and in perhaps the most significant example of journalistic magniloquence, as having ‘many genuine LOL moments’. www. myspace. com/muckysailor

Panther is some mutant form of Charlie. Having recently supported The Gossip, Panther’s music is hard match of damaged soul, falsetto disco and broken synth fueled freakouts which is as addictive as it is challenging. This solo affair of Charlie Salas-Humara isn’t easily ignored for his unpredictable and energetic performances tainted with throbbing bass, minimalistic hooks and jittery dance routines. Panther’s influences run deep and take as much from Pop and R&B as Free Jazz and Punk. http://www. myspace. com/panthertouch
7Hertz
Fluid and engaging, 7 Hertz fluctuate and mutate live before your very ears. incorporating all or none of the following instruments - basson, violin, voice, double bass, french horn, glockenspiel, clarinet, mandolin, trumpet - they improvise glorious pieces with total, beautiful spontaneity. http://www. myspace. com/the7hertzband

Hilarious two piece free-noise instigators from NYC. Kevin and Matt. Together they make Mavin or Kett. Relentless mezmorizing drums and synths that anticipate each other. A free roaming cacophony of dense aural matter from which a storm brews and rhythms pour down, but in the end the sun shines through. http://www. myspace. com/talibam
Very creative and smashing lads who make nice challenging music. View their myspace to see why they are 'smashing'. http://www. myspace. com/stignoise
