Bio
Big in Japan started as an instrumental trio comprised of Matt Pierce on Rhodes, flute, and vocals, James Griffith on bass and guitar and Michael Lowry on drums. In recent years the band has become a collective including Ed Harris on bass, Woody Ranere on guitar and collaborations with artists from other groups such as vocalist Katrina Ford from "Celebration". Their sound is at times sweeping and cinematic or alternatively furious and bombastic. Some of their music is written in advance but sometimes their live set may rely wholly on improvised material where the band foregoes traditional song forms such as soloing. The band is currently in the process of writing new material for collaborations to be grouped with previous collaborative works recorded, that were produced by Dave Fridmann. _______________________________________________________________________ -

Bio:

Big in Japan is a mostly instrumental trio comprised of Matt Pierce on Rhodes, flute, and vocals, James Griffith on bass and guitar and Michael Lowry on drums. Their sound has been characterized at times as sweeping and cinematic and furiously bombastic. They rely mostly on wholly improvised material, foregoing traditonal songs although, while performing, eschew more traditional improvised forms such as soloing, preferring to take a more songwritten approach to their improvised material. They heavily favor playing live using the atmosphere of the venue and the connection forged between the audience and themselves as an indication of what they will play and how they play it ,leading often to highly energized live shows that run the gamut between loud and racous to so quiet, one could hear a pin drop. This "live in the moment" live approach has become their defining characteristic and finds audiences always wondering but never quite knowing what to expect when they see the band perform. _______________________________________________________________________ Hey everyone. Matt, Mike and James are also now members of the group "Unkle Live" (Unkle's live touring band). Check out www.Unkle.com for their schedule and/or sign up for the Lake Trout newsletter at www.Laketrout.com for updates and news on all Lake Trout members.
On 15th December, UNKLE will release ‘End Titles... Redux’ as a limited collector’s edition of 3000 CDs that will only be available via UNKLE. com. This will also be available digitally from the 14th of December. The release will feature seven re-interpreted tracks from the album ‘End Titles… Stories For Film’, two new tracks and ‘Trouble in Paradise (Variation on a Theme)’. The exclusive package is a 6 panel soft-pack with a 12 page booklet with images by Robert Del Naja.
UNKLE has always worked with classical musicians. In the last four years this has happened more frequently. For ‘End Titles… Redux’ UNKLE felt there was an opportunity to further work with the orchestral parts of ‘End Titles… Stories For Film’ by adding new arrangements and remixing to allow a more ambient sound to come through. This has resulted in a predominantly classical body of work.
Pre-Order ‘End Titles... Redux’ here in North America or here in the Rest of the World.
