I have many interests. Music, movies, cultural activities (museums, cultural fairs, theater...pretty much anything), reading, cooking (did I mention I'm one hell of a cook?), good food and drink, and...history/politics.
Music
I like pretty much everything...I mostly listen to Punk, Ska, Cheesey '80's Pop, Cheesey '80's Metal, Swing, Classic Rock, Rockabilly, Classical, Opera, Rap/Hip Hop, R&B/Soul, and nerdcore depending on my mood.
I used to have a huge list here.
However, Social Distortion is definitely my favorite band.
I also dig on Linkin Park (go figure)
Best new discovery:
Gina Rene
One hell of a Soul/R&B singer. Damn she can sing!
Check her out! She's awesome and deserves a record deal.
Movies
Let's just hit a few biggies:
Tarrantino
Akira Kurasawa
Most of Trey and Matt's stuff
Star Wars (3-6)
Moulin Rouge
Princess Bride
The Godfather (1 & 2)
Tim Burton
Television
South Park is still pretty great. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Daily Show/Colbert Report. Boondocks. Keith Oberman & Rachael Maddow's shows.
Unfortunately, I don't get to watch all that much of the above TV shows.
Books
Voltaire rocks. Hilarious and thought provoking. Chuck Palatnik. Winston Groom. Joseph Heller. George Orwell (1984 should be required reading. Unless you're George W. Bush. Have Karl Rove read it to you in that case.). Edgar Allen Poe. Niccolo Machiavelli. Carl Sagan. Richard Feynman. Victor Hugo. Richard Dawkins. Herman Mellville. J.R.R. Tolkien. Salman Rushdie. Gabriel Garcia Marquez. J.D. Salinger. F. Scott Fitzgerald. Aldous Huxley. Mark Twain. William Faulkner. Douglas Adams. Jack Kerouac. William Golding. Ray Bradbury. Charles Dickens. Nikolai Gogol. Alexander Pushkin. Bram Stoker. Mary Shelley. Ernest Hemingway. Natalie Babbitt (Check out the Devil's Storybooks). Sinclair Lewis. Upton Sinclair. John Steinbeck. JK Rowling. Geoffrey Chaucer. James W. Loewen. Michael Moore. Howard Zinn. Noam Chomsky. John Hope Franklin. James Mc Pherson. Stephen Ambrose. Roald Dahl. E. B. White. Graham Greene. Lewis Carroll. William Shakespeare. Arthur Miller. Stephen Crane. Kate Chopin. Joseph Conrad. Ken Kesey. Tom Stoppard.
I am a voracious reader. What else can I say?
Heroes
George Walker Bush is my hero!
(BTW, if you believe that, you should probably check what I wrote for the other sections.)
Where to begin?
What defines a person? Major? Job? Hobbies? Life experience?
My major is mathematics & statistics. It reflects a lot about me that I am choosing to pursue not only the language of the universe (mathematics) but also one of the most misrepresented aspects of it (statistics).
I work a few jobs...most of them boil down to helping people understand math. Some feel that I am the greatest thing since sliced bread while others feel I am the worst tutor ever. That says a lot about me; I tend toward extrema.
I would say that the only hobbies that I have really been partaking in lately are reading and wet shaving (yes, wet shaving; it's nothing perverted, just shaving old school with a brush and a safety razor (straight razors are a bit too much for me, honestly)). I enjoy cooking and beading when I have the time, which hasn't been very often as of late.
My life experience has been interesting to say the least. received a Bachelor of Arts in history, then proceeded to drop out of law school, teach special education, and finally ending up pursuing math. I've been all over the US.
Personality-wise, I tend toward bringing out the best and the worst in people (as I said above). I have a quirky sense of humor, yet tempered with a bit of pragmatism.
I'm presently working to improve myself both physically (Weight Watchers, eating healthier, and exercising) and mentally (addressing my problems).
I am an ethical person, a bit of a libertarian (lower case "l") lefty progressive. I voted Obama...heck, I volunteered for Obama, LOL. (He'd BETTER do a good job.)
I'm very passionate (I'm Italian, what can I say...fuhgetaboutit). I like to think that my best physical feature are my deep, blue-gray eyes.
The pic is me on December 02, 2008.
I'll add more later as I think of other things to add. Ask away if you have any other questions...
Hey, I hope you got my text message, we reviewed through my math questions during that class session on Monday. I think I am set for this math test! However, we have triple integration for the final and I think I may need your help with that haha ^_^
