Big Joe Hurt’s music has been described as raw emotion with soulful meditations reminiscent of the singers of the Soul movement best days. Joe’s music has been brewing up a fusion soup of NeoSoul, Blues, Pop and Groove Funk rhythms in the Los Angeles scene. Hurt spent many years in the San Francisco bay area developing his sound. Having found mentors like Steve Sage to aide his progress. Joe began to build his reputation as a melodically gritty vocalist and percussive rhythm guitarist. Joe also began to record with many other acts in many genres finding a universal link with his sound and the music his peers where creating. Joe has said that the most important thing San Francisco taught him was that “Performing is not about playing tunes, its about connecting with the people in the audience.” Another important lesson was learning to be as much as a businessman as musician. With these two valuable lessons in tow along with his growing resume of radio and television performances Joe took his music on the road. Traveling across the country from Los Angeles California to New York city.

Hurt grew up in the southern California’s beautiful High Desert. His travels allowed him to visit many states and many stages. He recently settled in Los Angeles bringing his brand of music to the scene. Los Angeles has proven to be a friendly host for Joe’s music finding a niche in a very pop driven scene. Joe’s self proclaimed “Grown Folks” music has allowed him to become a standout performer among Los Angeles singer- songwriters.

Upon returning to Southern California Joe released his solo EP, “No Pain No Gain” and agreed on a distribution with LA based Adamant Records. Since releasing “No Pain No Gain,” Big Joe has toured extensively in promotion of the EP totaling over 100 shows performed in 2008. In 2009 Joe and his band began recording the new release titled, “While You Where Away.” The new album demonstrates Joe’s maturation as a songwriter and performer. Music Connection Magazine
called his performance of tunes off of the new album, “Perfect for any film and any romantic comedy or private nookie music.” He continues to play festivals and major venues across the country, appearing on major television networks and radio.

Big Joe’s unquenchable thirst for live performance drives him to continue to hone his ability as a songwriter and performer. It’s that desire to create music that connects that keeps Joe and his band a constant favorite on the indie music scene.
