   About BIG JOHN MILLER BAND
Myspace Layouts

This hard-hitting funky blue soul band from Little Rock, Arkansas definitely knows how to energize a crowd. Best known for their live performances, the Big John Miller Band delivers an electrifying mix of blues, soul, funk, rock, and jazz. Through writing and performing original music as well as interpreting crowd favorites, the band has developed a strong following.

Big John Miller- Lead Vocals, Percussion

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, John has spent his life perfecting his vocal style. Influenced by musicians such as Al Green, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and James Brown, John has developed a style all his own with roots based in blues, soul, jazz, and R&B. He has won numerous awards including the Arkansas Musician's Showcase, Arkansas River Blues Society Talent Contest, and the Sonny Boy Blues Society Talent Contest. John has been voted Best Male Vocalist in the Little Rock Free Press Reader's Poll and is regularly voted as a Best Band by the readers the Arkansas Times in their "Best of Arkansas" issue. He has performed at the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, AR, the International Blues Challenge, and the Crossroads Music Festival in Memphis, TN. But perhaps the late, great, Godfather of Soul James Brown summed it up best. After seeing John perform in May of 2003, he told John "Boy when you sing, you sing the white right offa you!!"

George Mitchell- Drums

Little Rock native, George "Scooter" Mitchell, knew early on that music was the way to go and that drums were the vehicle. After leaving home at 19, he set out for a big move to Los Angeles. This proved beneficial as George worked in many aspects of the "Business". His experience has ranged from playing drums and percussion tech to set carpenter and grip and all the while he has never put the sticks down. When asked who inspired him he lists James Gatson, Rufus "Speedy" Jones, Louie Bellson, Bernard Purdy, and Dennis Chambers as well as locals Robert Trezvant, Larry Ross and Jackie Morton just to name a few.

Brian Detherow- Lead Guitar

Brian was born and raised in North Little Rock, AR. He has developed his guitar style through heavy influence by BB, Albert, and Freddie King, Chris Cain, T-Bone Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and many, many others. Brian fronted a blues band called The Troublemakers in Fayetteville, AR from 1996-1998, played with Mark Sallings and the Famous Unknowns from 1998-00 and played with The Charlotte Taylor Band from 2002-2006. Brian has gained a wealth of experience from touring blues clubs and festivals all over the United States.

Clay Todd- Bass, Vocals

Clay is from Arkadelphia, Arkansas and has been playing music for over 36 years. He played in in some of Arkansas most favorite bands such as Afrodesia, Count Floyd, and First Impressions as well as sharing the stage with such world class notables as The Rippingtons, Bernie Worrell, The Gap Band, The Bar-Kays, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter.
