The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown was formed in November of 2007 by John Heintz, John-Paul Miller (Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band) and Derrick Johnson (Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band and Asheville Horns). The idea first came about during a Galactic, Lee Boys, and Papa Grows funk jam in Copper Mountain, CO in April 07. There was an energy that was captured that night while everyone from all three bands just locked into their groove. During the summer of 07 many of us in The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown had jammed together at the festivals while touring with our primary bands which further fueled the reality of this project actually being possible. It was through these "Sit-ins" that John met JP and Derrick and eventually started brain storming how to make it all happen.
In December we had our first gathering which resulted in 8 songs being written and tracked over the course of 5 days in New Orleans. During those 5 days we had a total of 23 musicians from 10 different bands. Our Second gathering took place January 13th thru the 17th in Jacksonville and Tallahassee, Florida at Matt Grondin's (Inca Maya) studio as well as George Clinton's studio. During this second session we were able to get 4 more songs written and tracked as well as the vocals laid down on 6 that we wrote in NOLA. Progress on the album is moving quite quickly and we hope to have some tracks posted in the near future. We will keep you all posted as we come to the final stages of completing the album.

Hey friends, we are celebrating CD release of JUICE, the new album from Jen and the Juice on March 14th at Pisgah Brewery in Black Mountain. The day starts with games and grilling out from 3:30 to 5:30 and the show starts at 6:00pm sharp inside the brewery.
