Big Potato Radio Show on Radio Resonance104.4FM
resonancefm.com
TO BE REPEATED ON 5TH MAY AT 8PM
Firstly we must thank Mr Portnell & Mr Wells from Coley Park for a frighteningly convincing presenting job.
We hope you enjoyed our radio show which we included music from Big Potato's big sack and music we been touched by in our first year of service.
We limited the show to English music, from Somerset, Cornwall, London, Chiltern Hills & Liverpool. We have listed the tracks we played below. Go to www.myspace.com/rocketrecordings for more details about their 10 year anniversary & www.thisistruck.com for more details about Wood & Truck Festivals or buy ticket from http://www.wegottickets.com/f/253
Caz Mechanic - The Edges (Big Potato)
Taken from The Secret Life Of The Wife Of The Captain Of The Ship In a Bottle on The Mantelpiece 2008.
An addictive little tune features the 2 Kevs who were/are in Seafood.
Holton's Opulent Oog - Tab (Big Potato)
Taken from The Problem Of Knowledge 2008.
A simple song with a little snarl in its laid back air, featuring Ian and Simon from Mojave 3.
Neil Halstead - Witless & Wise (Brush Fire)
Taken from Oh Mighty Engine out later this year.
One of two exclusive songs from Neil which sees him entering a new phase in his brilliant song writing career.
Caz Mechanic- Smells Of Last Night (Big Potato)
Taken from The Secret Life Of The Wife Of The Captain Of The Ship In a Bottle on The Mantelpiece 2008.
Produced by Neil Halstead and featuring Al from Mojave 3 and Loose Salute, a lovely pop song cut through with some home truths.
Maps - Too The Sky remixed by M83 (Sonic Cathedral)
Taken from double A side 7" with M83 2008.
Another great single from the label that celebrates itself, look out for always great nights around the UK.
Professor Yaffle - Son Of A Hermit

One of our favourite discoveries this year from Liverpool.
Coley Park - Said & Done (Big Potato)
Taken from Rhinoceros 2007.
"Beguiling naivety on tracks such as ‘Said And Done’ coming across like Nick Drake fronting The Pastels." NME
Danny And The Champions Of The World- Red Tree Song (Loose)
Taken from debut album out soon 2008
Always puts on a great show and you can see them at the Wood Festival on 16-19th May in Oxfordshire.
Monster Movie - LA (Graveface)
Out only in USA we think, but you can order it from Graveface 2007.
All I know about this is that it is beautiful and Monster Movie features a member of Neil Halstead old band Slowdive, a coincidence I assure you. Honest.
President Sweetheart - Lovers At The End Of The Day (Big Potato)
Taken from debut album out this summer 2008
The mysterious duo keep us in the dark about the final date of completion of their album, have written and recorded 20 songs for it and they tell us have just finished writing the next album! First things first Sweetheart's.
Holton's Opulent Oog - Fountain Of Hate (Big Potato)
Taken from The Problem Of Knowledge 2008
Also playing at the Wood & Truck Festival this summer, here with a "Grandaddy-like electro-folk" Alternative Ulster.
The Left Outsides - Deep Rivers Move Inside
A brand new track from a new album out later this year 2008.
A great band from underrated and much missed Eighteen Days Of May & Saloon, well missed until now.
Loose Salute - Tuned To Love (Heavenly)
Taken from Tuned To Love out this summer 2008.
Fun, Fun Fun oh and some sweet dark moments on their debut album, featuring Ian from Mojave 3 and our Oog, and Al from Mojave 3 again!!
Neil Halstead - Mighty Engine (Brushfire)
Taken from Oh Mighty Engine out later this year 2008.
So incase you are wondering Coley Park were joking, this is probably the Jewell in crown of this show.... what more can I say, other than Neil is playing at the Wood and Truck festival also, you'd better not miss out!!!
Caz Mechanic - Can't Help Yourself (Big Potato)
Taken from The Secret Life Of The Wife Of The Captain Of The Ship In a Bottle on The Mantelpiece 2008.
"...and the simply brilliant ‘Can’t Help Yourself’, this outstanding
roller-coaster of emotions will easily pick up fans, as long as people get to hear it." Bearded (4)
Coley Park - Devils Tree (Big Potato)
Taken from Rhinoceros 2007.
A monster of a song, to end a monster of a show, featuring Kev Wells on loopy slide and recorder to create a mini psychedelic master piece.

CAZ MECHANIC
"Caz Mechanic proves that she is as blessed with intelligent beauty as The Decemberists or anyone on Saddle Creek. Byrdsian folk jangles and Nick Drake melancholy, sweet lyrics and nifty asides all indicate a quirky, if not unique, talent." 7/10 Drowned In Sound
Caz Mechanic - WIFE OF THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP IN THE BOTTLE ON THE MANTLE PIECE out 31st March 2008 on BIG POTATO RECORDS- Order it now if you care to
NORMANRECORDS.COM or
PLAY.COM
"Caz Mechanic has made a confident, uncompromising album on her own terms. An adorable little musical oddity." Clash
"Caz Mechanic has come up with a stunningly colourful debut set of pop gems. Streaming with ideas and bursting with life this is a record you do not want to miss out on." 4/5 MH SUBBA CULTCHA
"The skeletal otherness of Banks's voice, which recalls early Cat Power. Caz Mechanic and friends work up a convincing Nico/Velvets drone." Uncut
CAZMECHANIC-WIFE OF THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP IN THE BOTTLE out ON 31st MARCH 2008
CazMechanic -Ranging from creepy folk to beautiful pop. With a heart stuck in the Velvet Underground the songs have a fresh, witty feel. All the instruments are played, as she sings, in a slight dream like state, creating atmosphere & sometimes fear.........................................................................................................
Holton's Opulent Oog -THE PROBELM OF KNOWLEDGE is out - you can BUY it if you like from HERE or-

HOLTON'S OPULENT OOG...........................................................................................
Holton’s Opulent OogThe Problem of knowledge is a
beautifully realised album full of bright tunes, dark
thoughts, happy days & long nights. You will find
yourself tapping your toe to the mellow snarl of Tab,
smiling through See You in La La, sighing along with
Oaki Room before holding your breath at Pour it Out.
It’s a minimalist creation built around the Spanish guitar,
violin & poems. Lots of space, room to get lost & puzzle in.
Holton’s Opulent Oog features ian mccutcheon (mojave3 &
loose salute), simon rowe (chapter house & mojave3)
caroline banks(seafood & caz mechanic), Roger Proctor &
holton.
"A pretty, intimate gen" Plan B
"Holton’s Opulent Oog’s sound is all wistful sighs, whisky slugs and alt.country brilliance. An absolute treat." BN 9/10 NME
"Sheer tenderness & sincerity. Guitar picking loveliness. A work of love, unique." Notion
The Problem of Knowledge is a subtle, but very alluring record. The core of its sound is dreamy alt-country, mainly based around the dusty, Dylan-like vocals, Spanish guitar and harmonica of the eponymous Holton. But more fundamentally, this is an album that contains classic songwriting pushed many ways" 7/10 Drowned In Sound
The lyrics are beautiful, the music is lo-fi and perfect and Holton's Opulent Oog have managed to capture my heart with "The Problem of Knowledge". 11/13 Room 13
"The Problem Of Knowledge is minimalistic just above the extreme, built around a violin and Spanish guitar and it absolutely brilliant. It seems that alternative country is coming back into popularity, and it seems that Holton’s Opulent Oog are going to be leading the way" Bearded
PRESIDENT SWEETHEART.
President Sweetheart’s debut will be released in 2008. Heart warming mix of melodic folk & lo-fi country. Full of great songs warmly produced at our own studio.
Harmonies, mouth organ, banjo, peddle steel, thickly spread where required, but as in "not just killing you" the song holds centre stage with just whips of feed back to keep it company. The album dips it's head to dark country of "do you feel like those other girls"
then lifts off with a smile on "speak,whistle & hope" ................................ ..................................... . ................................ ............................................... ........................... .................................
COLEY PARK ......................................................................................
Rhinoceros, Coley Park’s 3rd album finds them
exploring poppier, melodic songs & mixing
realities in wordy tales of loss & hope.
Music is supplied from melodic, fuzzy, wooshy
keys, dirty jangly guitars, flutes, violins, sweet
harmonies, blasting trumpets, rocket ships of
feed back & the big pounding drum & bass.
"Coley Park are purveyors of
jangly indie-pop with a country twang and a
psychedelic twist. For this, their third album,
they’ve come up with an understated masterpiece, their
beguiling naivety on tracks such as ‘Said And Done’
coming across like Nick Drake fronting The Pastels.
“We’re so peripheral right now”, they lament ..r
‘Of All Faces’ – if this was a just world they
wouldn’t be." 8/10 NME
“Strikes a telling balance between the pastoral
vibes of little England & a warm Americana.
Detailed by studied lyrics, they stir up a woozy
psych sound of a high standard”
4/5 The Independent.
QUIET LANES AND OTHER STORIES 7" VINYL AND RHINCEROS THE ALBUM ARE AVAILABLE TO BUY FROM HERE OR FROM RECORDSTORE.CO.UK

HAPPY BELATED ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DAY!!! From the ROBOTS FROM MARS
Music from Earth has been deliberately launched into space by humankind. Other than attaching a disc to a spacecraft or randomly broadcasting TV and radio signals, the Third Planet has never before attempted to share it’s musical culture with the Heavens. A Beatles song has been beamed out into the galaxy. NASA broadcasted the song, "Across the Universe", through the transmitters of its deep space communications network on the 40th anniversary of the songs recording at London's Abbey Road studios. February 4th also commemorated the space agency's 50th anniversary. The music was converted into digital data and sent on a 431 light year-journey towards Polaris, the North Star. The broadcast began its galactic crossing at 7 p.m. EST/February 4th 2008. Martian Side note: It might take awhile for the flower children around Polaris to respond to this broadcast. They prefer space polkas and hate all forms of technology.
