Based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, BIG SURF takes surf genre signatures -- the pounding drums, rapid fire guitar licks, those oceans of sweet, sweet reverb - and spikes the punch with progressive song structures and world music flare.
Redefining a sound pioneered by Dick Dale, The Ventures and The Belairs, BIG SURF'S music has been called "a unique and infectious brand of surf for the adventurous" (Phil Dirt of KFJC-FM Los Altos Hills, California and the Reverb Central Web site). But you can just call it "intense" (Don Nelson, of The Exotics, and The Nelsonics)!
If you're around on Thursday, December 10th, we are playing a show at Mario's Keller Bar. I don't know if you've been there, but it's a very cool place. It's a comfortable space, the room sounds great and they have a stellar beer selection.
Also, we will be playing ALL NIGHT! We'll play some funky, bluesy, and soulful music. We'll project live video onto a 9 ft screen. We'll play some older material that hasn't been heard in awhile, as well as some brand new songs that've never been heard. All bets are off!! We'd love it if you'd come down and listen/party with us!
thanks for the kind comment I am posting the album as I record it,day by day in real time, its like having myspace in the back room with me passing comments once its finished I will gladly send you a copy, thanks for your interest,James
Send a big SHOUT OUT from The Fractals to Shoe for helping Barry get his car back on the road! Thanks to eveyone else for being so awesome too! Looking forward to jamming at the Hexigon again. Also, we are planning on having our CD release in February at Beaners Central and hope you guys might come up to open the show? No set date yet, but keep it in mind! :) Cheers!
I just wanted to stop by and say hello! I hope that the coming week brings you fun adventures, relaxation, and contentment :)
I was going to go camping over the weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.
Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.
Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.
Here's the info:
