About me:

Hi Everyone....

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket My name is MICKEY. I am a 7 year old Yellow Lab. That's 49 in human years! I live in Florida with my Mom and Dad. I weigh about 90 lbs, but Mom wants me to go on a diet to loose more weight. I have had a pretty rough life so far. First of all, I was born in a puppy mill in the mid-west, then when I was real little, they shipped me to a pet store in Hollywood, Florida. There, I was purchased for my Mom by her daughter and son, who gave me to her on Mothers Day, 2002.

Photobucket Everything was fine until about 6 or 7 months, when I started to feel pain in my elbows. Mom noticed that I started walking funny, so she took me to the vet only to discover that I had Elbow Dysplasia...Not only that, but I also have right Hip Dysplasia, and there is no enamel on some of my teeth, they call that Enamel Hypoplasia. I also have an impacted canine tooth that never came through. So...I am a gentic mess, the vet says, but I am happy and I am very well taken care of.

In April of 2007,I had an episode where my lungs collapsed. They called it Spontaneous Pneumothorax. I was next door playing with the two dogs over there. I never, and I mean NEVER go over there, becaue Mom and Dad have an electric fence to keep me on the property. I have plenty of room to roam around, but they didn't want me to go off the property and get hit by a car..Usually I stay on the property, but this day, I decided to go over and play. I didn't have my collar on, so there was nothing holding me back...I should never have done that, because I played so hard (and I am not used to that), my lungs collapsed. I was in the hospital for 4 days with chest tubes on each side. The doctors wanted to operate on me, but Mom and Dad decided to just bring me home, and see what happens. Luckily, I am recovering, but it's very slow going. I can't go out for a long walk, or run and play. I loose my breath very easy...even going outside to pee gets me winded..and I have to rest for a while.

IT'S BEEN A WHOLE YEAR SINCE MOM SAY SHE ALMOST LOST ME WITH THE PNEUMOTHORAX OR COLLAPSED LUNGS...I AM FEELING REALLY GOOD NOW. I STILL CAN'T OVER EXERT MYSELF...BUT I KNOW THAT I AM GOING TO MAKE IT FOR A WHILE LONGER..IT WAS A LONG HARD BATTLE, BUT MOM TOOK REAL GOOD CARE OF ME FEEDING ME HERBS AND PILLS TO HELP ME GET BETTER. I MIGHT EVEN GET TO GO TO THE WEST COAST OF FLORIDA TO VISIT FRIENDS FOR A FEW DAYS,AND SWIM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO!! LIFE IS GOOD. So..now you know I am a sick boy, but Mom is taking such good care of me. She makes me drink these Chinese herbs and gives me pills that are supposed to help me get better. I think it is working, because I feel so much better now. The herbs come from the state of Washington from a place called Heaven and Earth Chinese Medicine Healing Center. My Mom would recommend anyone interested to check it out. It's only been 2 months since my lungs collapsed, but I am certain I will get better soon.

THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN..IN JUNE 08..I HAD SURGERY ************************************************* WARNING*WARNING*WARNING*WARNING*WARNING* ____________________________________________ THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH. THIS IS MY SURGERY FROM JUNE OF 08. I AM FULLY RECOVERED NOW, BUT MOM STILL MAKES ME TAKE IT EASY. MOM AND I THANK GOD AND ST FRANCIS EVERY DAY THAT I HAVE SURVIVED THIS.

This is a slide show of my late brother Buddy. He died of Osteosarcoma (cancer) in his shoulder Sept 26, 2004. He was 11 years old, and as beautiful as these pictures. Rest in peace Buddy boy.We love and miss you.

Interests

  • General

Sleeping, playing catch, digging cookies out of my kong, eating, smelling the grass, seeing what ever it is that Mom or Dad has to eat, I like to go in the car, but we have to wait a while till I feel better. Mom and Dad take me up to the Blue Ridge Mountains, but might have to wait till next year to do that. It's a long drive.

I listen to what ever Mom puts on...She listens to Christian music...Usually Carman, or the radio. Mom tells me that St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, and that he has helped me get better..She tells me that the Lord has healed me...I think she may be right. She likes country too, and used to love to go line dancing.

    The Puppy Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep...
I sleep right in the center groove
My human being can hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight
And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
My nibbles on my human's chin.
    She wakes up quickly,
    I have sharp teeth -
    I'm a puppy, don't you see?
    For the morning's here
    And it's time to play
I always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs and holds me tight
And shares her bed with me at night!
