The Kickstand's Interests
|
| General | BICYCLES!, also we like: the environment, good health and good nutrition, safety, and involvement. We see all of these as part of a big whole of helping each other live better. | | Music | "Bicycle Race" by Queen is the only song we are currently allowed to listen to. Also, that Kraftwerk song, "Tour de France". Pretty obvious. | | Movies | Breaking Away, The Bicycle Thief, BMX Bandits, Quicksilver | | Television | Throw it away and get a bicycle! | | Books | Ballatine's Bicycle Book, the new and revised 1978 edition. | | Heroes | We don't need no heroes! but we do work in the same spirit as suffragettes, abolitionists, civil rights organizers, labor reformers, environmental activists, and all those who have come before us with a vision of a more just and peaceful world. |

The Kickstand's Blurbs |
About me:
The Gainesville Community Bicycle Project, The Kickstand, aims to establish a non-profit organization that will provide free or inexpensive bicycle-related services to all persons without discrimination. Since we believe that the bicycle represents the most affordable, healthy, and environmentally sound form of transportation and recreation, we seek to encourage people to learn to maintain a bicycle themselves and to use it in a responsible manner. We will provide assistance in acquiring a reliable bicycle and scheduled access to knowledgeable volunteers and quality tools. It is our belief that by providing these services we can help build neighborhood involvement and create greater paths for communication and cooperation.
Interested in volunteering at The Kickstand? We need your help!
As you may already know, we have been struggling to make it through the summer months and are currently in great need of volunteers. Whether you are interested in participating in the bicycle shop, the venue, various Kickstand events, or general maintenance and organization of the shop as a whole, we welcome your involvement. To get started, email us at ilovethekickstand@gmail.com with your name, contact information, availability, and the area(s) you are interested in helping out with. Or, come share your ideas, learn more about how we operate, and work on ongoing Kickstand projects by attending one of our weekly volunteer meetings, Thursdays at 6pm in the shop, located at 722 S Main St. With your support, we can further strengthen our commitment to providing free and inexpensive bicycle-related services to the Gainesville community, making it to the fall better equipped and with more stability than before.
Thank you for your support!
