The Bike Kitchen, SF's Interests
|
| General | Doing it myself, helping other people do it, teaching other people how to do it, fixing things, salvaging old parts and frames, riding bikes, and a nice cold beer from time to time. | | Music | the Bike Kitchen misses the drum circle. . . but then the bk always did march to its own drum. | | Movies | The Bike Kitchen has its own movie which you can download from the website bikekitchen.org.
Also we like: Still we ride on, other movies from the bike film festival - especially ones featuring Ted Shred, and . . . | | Television | the revolution will not be televised. | | Books | Barnetts Manual and Sutherlands handbook for bicycle mechanics. . . you might say we have a single track mind. | | Heroes | Eugene Christophe (1885-1970,Fra). You know, that guy who was riding the tour de france way back when the riders had to do their own repairs. The story goes that he climbed a huge hill, took the lead, and then hit a car on his way down the hill and broke his fork. So he carries his bike 14 km to the nearest blacksmith and fixes his fork. Then he gets back on his bike and keeps riding. He lost the lead but still finished 7th place. The punch line: the judges subtracted from his score because a young boy pumped the bellows while he was fixing his fork. um, the bike kitchen will pump your bellows anytime Eugene. |

About me:
***REGARDING BOOKING SHOWS***
I am putting the shows on hold for a while. If you haven't confirmed anything with me, I'm probably not going to be able to help out. The bike kitchen will be moving, so i am thinking about putting on a few benefit shows to help out the kitchen. All proceeds will go to the bike kitchen. If you are interested in that, let me know. Otherwise, stop by and learn how to fix your bike!
-Alex
The Bike Kitchen is a cooperative, do-it-yourself bike repair shop. We provide all the tools and parts you need to fix or build a bicycle. Our staff of volunteer mechanics is available to give advice and answer questions.
Instead of charging a fee for services, the Bike Kitchen charges membership dues: either $5 a day, or $30 a year. Purchasing a membership gives you access to all the tools and parts in our inventory. If you’re short on cash, you can earn a membership or parts by volunteering in the shop for a certain number of hours.
You don't need to be a member to learn more. Stop by during open hours and see what the Bike Kitchen is all about.
We teach classes too, check out the website for details - bikekitchen.org
The Bike Kitchen found a new home!
After months of looking, we finally found a new space! We will be leaving the Mission Village Market and moving into our new space at 1256 Mission at 9th street on August 19th. We will still be operating out of the Mission Village Market until then.

Who I'd like to meet:
People who ride bikes, people who fix bikes, people who want a bike, people who want to fix a bike, people who aren't afraid to do it themselves, cute bikes
