About me:
www.thebikery.org

Greetings from The Bikery,

The Bikery has been a 100% volunteer run bike education resource shop in Seattle for 4 years and in September 2008 moved to S. 14th Ave and S. Jackson! We are providing opportunities for you to learn about, repair, and safely enjoy your bike. We provide the tools and knowledge—you provide your bike and your enthusiasm. We’re creating an inviting framework to engage people from all backgrounds regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, class, or other boundaries; together, we can define and participate in the whirlwind of creativity and good times that is bicycle culture!

The Bikery is currently open 4 days a week and offers monthly classes on a variety of bicycle-related subjects ranging from basic maintenance to traffic law. The Bikery strives to make bikes accessible. In doing so, we have used parts and refurbished bikes for you to purchase. You can also, use The Bikery's tools and stands for $5 an hour. If that doesn't work for you, we have an easy work/trade system that will help you get your bike on the road again! more details on the shop and other Bikery-related events can be found here on our MySpace page and at our website – www.thebikery.org

The Bikery Open Hours(1265 S Main St #104)

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

November

Basic Bike Maintenence for Women, Gender Queer, and Trans Folks
Sunday, November 22nd| 12pm – 2pm|The Bikery (1265 S Main St. #104)

This is a class for people who are looking for an intentional alternative to the traditionally male dominated bike-shop environment. The class is designed for folks that want to learn the super-basics of bike mechanics- learn what the different components on your bike are called and how they function, learn how to fix a flat tire, and discover simple ways to keep your ride happy and on the road. The Bikery suggests a donation of between $5 and $15 for class attendance, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

December

Bottom Brackets 101

Sunday, December 13th| 12pm – 2pm|The Bikery (1265 S Main St. #104)

Learn all about your bottom bracket and how to love it. We will go over how to overhaul them, compatibility issues, what makes French and Italian BBs different, and much more. The Bikery suggests a donation of between $5 and $15 for class attendance, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Basic Bicycle Maintenance

Sunday. December 27th| 12pm – 2pm|The Bikery (1265 S Main St. #104)

BIKERY MISSION AND VALUES

Our Mission Statement:
Through collaborative, hands-on education on bikes and biking, the Bikery is cultivating the personal, social and environmental benefits of bicycling.

Our Values:
*The Bikery wishes to demystify the bicycle by familiarizing people with their bikes, and by encouraging personal and vocational exploration. At the Bikery, any style of cyclist can build self-confidence and increase their skills in a non-intimidating atmosphere.

*The Bikery encourages interaction between diverse people in an accessible, safe and welcoming space. In addition to its function as a workspace, the Bikery is a place to relax and socialize.

*Money, or lack thereof, should never be an issue that discourages using the Bikery space and resources.

*Safety and the skills to attain it - including knowing rules of the road and common-sense rules of thumb, wearing helmets and using lights - will always be emphasized.

*The Bikery aggressively promotes the idea that there is more to bicycling than transportation. Bicycles are fun, artistic, recreational, functional, smart, conservation-minded, and beautiful.

*The Bikery helps people realize their own mental and physical health capabilities achieved through cycling.

*Community outreach is our responsibility.

*We strive to build partnerships with other like minded organizations.

*We recognize that marginalization exists in bicycle culture. The Bikery is dedicated to non-oppression by continually improving our own education and providing resources for others to do the same.

*All people involved in the Bikery will adhere to our values with understanding and sincerity, and wholeheartedly appreciate the diverse population the Bikery serves.
