Bill Bartholomew is a singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Brooklyn, NY. Arriving in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2006 via Providence, RI, Bill has developed a distinct style of folk/pop songwriting based around his warm vocals, infectious melodies and soulful guitar style.
In 2008 he self-released his first official solo EP, World on a Wire, what The Deli Magazine described as 'an exciting debut...spirited, hook-laden.' Following a regional solo tour, which included packed shows at New York's Knitting Factory and Brooklyn's Public Assembly, Bartholomew decided to form a full-time band to support the evolving style of his writing. He did so in Governours, tapping bassist / vocalist John Phipps and drummer Tito Ladd, each of whom he'd worked with in his solo band. Governours is by far Bartholomew's most cohesive and exciting project to date, fully exposing his blues-inspired roots and pop/rock instincts. Governours have spent 2009 touring, reeling in fans show by show and adding to Bartholomew's already solid base. They are currently recording their debut full length in Brooklyn. Bartholomew is also an in-demand producer / engineer and session musician, and is a co-founder of Bushwick Music Studios, a recording, rehearsal and performance studio in Brooklyn, NY.
"Strong songwriting, wordy lyrical constructs, and an ear for hooks...reminiscent of some of the leading indie folk troubadours of today, like Elvis Perkins and The Tallest Man On Earth...blistering electric guitar work...seriously infectious pop...I found myself not wanting it to be over." - ON DEAF EARS (Austin, TX)
"Start to finish with palpable energy. Bartholomew succeeds at delivering well written, honest-to-goodness folk/rock songs. A skilled songwriter and natural performer, (he) has the ability to seamlessly give himself to (and lose himself in) his music." - JEZEBELMUSIC.COM (NYC)
"Without a doubt, Bill Bartholomew enjoys performing and recording his songs on the spirited, hook-laden EP, "World on a Wire". "American Anthem" starts off with standard pop rock, but midway the song cuts into a funky breakdown with a showcase of his guitar skills. Bartholomew's bright vocals and charged-up choruses make for an exciting debut." - THE DELI MAGAZINE (NYC)
"Hook-filled songs." - THE HOOK (Charlottesville, VA)
"A flair for melody." - THE PROVIDENCE PHOENIX (Providence, RI)
"(He) literally didn't need a microphone at times for the force and emotion in his powerful voice." - Fifth Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriters Competition Journal (NYC)
