Sounds Like
Nothin' you ever heard, but will want to hear again and again and again . . .
Although a Detroit native, Bill Bynum's musical roots are deep in the South. His parents migrated from the West Memphis, Arkansas area to Michigan's steel industry in the 1940's, bringing, like many, their love for bluegrass and country music. Bill and his four siblings grew up listening to artists like Johnny Cash and Buck Owens on Detroit's country radio station, "The Big D", through an old AM radio.
It was Detroit Rock that drove Bill's early musical career. But in 1999, Bill heard "Yours Forever Blue" by Steve Earle and The Del McCoury on PublicRadio. At that moment a passion developed as he found himself with a "non-stop desire to hear and play those songs". From that moment on, Bill started writing and playing live whenever and wherever he could.
With songs both traditional and original, and a sound that's at once as comfortable as your favorite pair of old jeans and as fresh as a blade of new grass, Bill Bynum & Co. is a band that's easy to love and hard to quit!
Bill has written a number of songs which deliver a story with strong emotional content and has collaborated with bluegrass industry legend, Pete Goble. Pete Goble is an IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Lifetime Achievement Award Winner who has written songs recorded by Alison Kraus, Hot Rize, Blue Highway and Mountain Heart among many others. Bill was 1st Place Winner in the 2004 Metro Detroit Songwriting Showcase with his song "Lovin' You", along with the 2006 Open Mic Artist of the year at "The Ark" in Ann Arbor. Bill lives for the joy of entertaining his audience -- a true showman!
Bill Bynum's extraordinarily talented "Company" is comprised of Mary Seelhorst on fiddle and vocals; Dave Keeney on dobro and guitar; and Chuck Anderson on the double bass, along with the occasional help of David Mosher.
Mary Seelhorst is a powerful and intuitive fiddler and outstanding vocalist who hails from the hills of Athens, Ohio. She's performed with bands in Ohio, North Carolina and Michigan for over 30 years. She's also a writer and photographer, and shot all the photos for the band's upcoming CD.
Dave Keeney plays dobro and guitar with exceptional skill, talent and taste. Tradition means alot to Dave, who lives on an apple orchard that's been in his family since 1843. A former long-haul trucker, Dave's the real deal. This guy can do it all, and sing about it, too!
Chuck Anderson picked up the double bass in 2001 at the urging of a friend who thought there were too many guitar pickers at bluegrass jams! Since then, Chuck has played everything from jazz standards to old-time fiddle tunes. As a former sound man at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI, and with a background in physics, Chuck's the one the band turns to when they need someone to troubleshoot and PA or divvy up the tab!
David Mosher plays a magnificent mandolin, and adds another layer of vocal harmony, as well. David is a full-time musician/producer, and a three-time Detroit Music Award winner for best folk/bluegrass instrumentalist. He not only played several instruments on the new CD, but recorded and produced it, as well.

Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Time to Stop Using the Detroit Incinerator & Support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste
Detroit's Solid Waste future is on the line — Mayor Dave Bing can either support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste, materials recovery and the economic development, or he can "stay the course with incineration."
Urge Mayor Bing to support the New Business Model for Detroit Solid Waste, which has a solid waste budget that is $1.7M less than that approved by City Council and has no incineration. Recycling generates more jobs and economic activity than incineration, and is less costly in the long run.
The best business, and less pollution, for Detroit Solid Waste is the New Business Model. Please take action today!
How's the gigging going Bill? I'm hoping to make it to your Ark gig. I'm playing at the Trinity House in June. Love to see you make it if you aren't playing that Sunday.
