Bill Champlin is best known for being a member of the legendary band, Chicago, which he joined in 1981 and remained a member of for 28 years. However, his career encompasses a whole lot more.
Bill's first band, The Opposite Six, was formed in 1961, while he was still
in high school. Later, The Sons of Champlin formed in 1965 as a 5 piece band, and later expanded to 7 members. The Sons recorded 7 commercially released albums between 1968 and 1977 and gained a devoted fan base. However, they never quite made it on the national scene, and disbanded in 1977.
At this point, Bill moved to L.A. to begin his solo career and also to write and record on many other artist's albums. Bill received 2 grammy awards for
his song writing and has released 7 solo albums. He has recording credits on
numerous albums by various artists that cover a 30 year period, in addition
to recording and touring with Chicago for 28 years.
In 1997, the Sons of Champlin reformed and were performing again, whenever Chicago's schedule permitted. Over the past few years, the Sons have also released 2 live albums and a DVD, as well as their first new studio album in almost 30 years, "Hip Li'l Dreams".
On August 4th, 2009, Bill's first solo CD / DVD in over 12 years was released on the DreamMakers Music label. You can order directly from DreamMakers by using the widget below.

Bill replied to questions about the set list on his
Official Web Site Forum, 'I'll be doing "Turn Your Love Around", "Headed For The Top" and a handful of other surprises in addition to the stuff from the album, or most of it.' The opening song will be "He Started To Sing", which has some incredibly powerful lyrics with the ability to inspire. Not only is it every singers song, but also anyone who's ever dreamed of being who they were intended to be.
As a preview to Bill's upcoming tour, here are the
lyrics for your enjoyment.
He was a daytime sleeper,
He never would go much deeper
Than his mother and dad expected
Another one so neglected
It was a blessing in disguise
‘Cause one day he opened up his eyes
Chorus:
And started to sing of love just to find it
He started to sing his way to the light
He was born with a master key to unlock a melody
And make it right, he could make it right
They told him to buckle down and pay attention
They taught him to swallow his dreams and his ambitions
So, he followed the rules of life by intimidation
To the point where he couldn’t find an inspiration
Then he began to wonder why
And suddenly opened up his eyes
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
He found it, a reason to open his wings
And rise above his world of pain
He knows it, he shows it and so he will sing of love
Never again will he beg to be heard by the powers that be
Never again will he change all his words
‘cause he’s gotta be free
He’s been there before and he’s learned to ignore
what they want him to see
He’ll write down the truth and he’ll sing it to you,
you don’t have to agree
And no-one will ever hold him down
Because of the freedom that he’s found
