Influences
my mom was my first musical influence, singing ballads from the 30's with an old guitar and some simple chords along with hymns with her brother. My grandfather with an old pitch fork, leading hymns in a small church in Northern Minnesota. The spirit of God who moves and empowers me.
Sounds Like
The sound of a mighty wind blowing across God's people bringing healing and hope to a new generation.
Growing up in the Mennonite church mostly in Northern Minnesota, Bill always enjoyed singing along with the songs at church. Then started playing guitar at age 11. "I am mostly a self learned player," he reports, except for one 2 hour session with Kent Burnside. Kent put together quite a few missing pieces to the puzzle. Music is such an amazing art form. So simple yet so complex. You have to love it. After much time playing with others in a church worship setting, He grew to appreciate the beauty of worship through music. It is such an incredible thing to enter in to God's presence through music. It channels the language of the heart toward God and helps to build a river where His presence can flow in us and through us. Although, Bill never thought of himself as a songwriter, once that first nugget is found, there is an constant thirst for more. The beauty of taking that small idea that God gives and then to work on it and cultivate it and begin to see more possibilities, is hard to express. But one can imagine that it is not much more amazing then the farmer that sows seeds and then looks over the harvest or the builder who lays a foundation and then carefully builds a dwelling for themselves and others. It is a constant learning experience. Paul Baloche's book, God Songs, has been a tremendous help in the process. "I hope to put more songs together in the near future as God provides,"
