  • From The Heart Series Featuring Billie Holiday

As the icy chill of winter settles in, thoughts turn to warmer times, and the sensuous prospects of Valentine’s Day around the corner.  It’s a time that has always enjoyed its own special soundtrack – “’Round Midnight,” “Unforgettable,” “Misty,” “Even The Nights Are Better,” “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” “Body and Soul,” “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” “Lay Lady Lay,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” and of course, “My Funny Valentine.”

A bouquet of familiar songs weaves its way through the first nine volumes of FROM THE HEART, a new series that will be available at all physical and digital retail outlets starting January 20th through Legacy Recordings, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

FROM THE HEART will be introduced with collections by nine core artists: Air Supply (on Arista/Legacy), Babyface (Epic/Legacy), Miles Davis (Columbia/Legacy), Aretha Franklin (Columbia/Arista/Legacy), Billie Holiday (Columbia/Legacy), the Isley Brothers (T-Neck/Epic/Legacy), Etta James (RCA Victor/Legacy), Dolly Parton (RCA/Legacy), and Frank Sinatra (Columbia/RCA Victor/Legacy).

    BILLIE HOLIDAY

The true art of ballad singing knew no greater voice and personality than Billie Holiday, whose formative years at Columbia (recording on the Brunswick and Vocalion labels) from 1933 to 1944, resulted in some 153 song titles immortalized by Lady Day.  Her artistry elevated the Great American Songbook, the focus of this collection, as she wraps herself around the consummate songwriting achievements of Cole Porter (“Night And Day”), the Gershwins (“Summertime” from Porgy And Bess, “The Man I Love”), Johnny Mercer (“If You Were Mine”), Ray Noble (“The Very Thought of You”), Irving Berlin (“I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm”), and many others.  Of special note is Sammy Cahn’s “Until The Real Thing Comes Along,” the final song from Billie’s final (original) Columbia recording session of February 10, 1942.

FROM THE HEART by BILLIE HOLIDAY (Columbia/Legacy 88697 41284 2-7)  Selections: 1. I Wished on the Moon (1935)  2. If You Were Mine (1935)  3. These Foolish Things (1936)  4. • Remixed & Reimagined Released Yesturday!!!

Billie Holiday Remixed and Reimagined Released Yesterday!

Following the launch of Nina Simone's "Remixed & Reimagined" last fall, Legacy Recordings brings you the second installment of this critically acclaimed series. The most heartfelt vintage master-tape performances of Billie Holiday – quite simply the 20th century's preeminent jazz vocalists – were selected and bestowed upon the most groove-worthy remixers of the 21st century. Remixers include Tony Humphries, DJ Logic, Charles Feelgood, Singsett, Nickodemus, Jazzy Nice, Organica, and others. The result is this 14-track gem: a heart-stopping manifesto of love, beauty, rhythm and poetry that beguiles, teases and embraces the sweet spot of absolutely anyone with an open mind. Created with the most for Lady Day, this disc is certain to appeal to fans of both jazz and electronica. This edition of "Remixed & Reimagined" features some of the best young musicians around today, including trumpet player Fabio Morgera and Lady Day Mecca. Had Billie Holiday been born 70 years later, there's little doubt that this is the kind of soulful sound she would have totally dug. Worlds colliding, indeed. But in the most beautiful way possible. Tracks include "I Hear Music," "Spreadin' Rhythm Around," and "Summertime."
