everything i hear, one way or another. I love music, love hearing others original music and songs. Im very much influenced by my contemporaries and the long long list of great songwriters. Robert hunter is a major influence, Utah Phillips, Im a bit of a history buff and that influences my writing. really everything....Woody, Bob, Tim O, Pete Rowan, Robert Keen, Steve Earle--hell, all those texas folks--some current writers that i think are very gifted are Jeff and Vida, Mike and Amy Finders, Anne and Pete Sibley, Mike West and Katie Euliss(Truckstop Honeymoon), Corb Lund, Benny Galloway, Russ Chapman, and lots lots more. My southern heritage--I was born in Cleveland MS in the delta. and my current geographic local--Western Colorado and the Mountains
Sounds Like
Bill Powers and hopefully not too much like any body else
I write songs, sing them, play guitar, mandolin, and banjo. I play in an old-time bluegrass outfit called Sweet Sunny South based in Paonia Colorado. SSS has 3 studio cds available from our website (www.sweetsunnysouth.com) and cd baby and various other places. Many of the songs we do are songs I wrote--we play mostly original music in the oldtime, bluegrass, honkeytonk, swing styles. I'm pretty comfortable writing for those styles as well as folks music in general. I am a dj on public radio KVNF--have been for more than 10 years now. I've done a variety of genre specific shows including, country, bluegrass, groove, lounge, folk, jazz and world. I write and produce jingles and have done so for some local businesses and produced a promo jingle for Delta County--the county I live in. Lately Ive done some co-writing which has been fun and interesting. My wife plays bass for SSS and we have a duo we call "Honey Dont" and an electric group called "Silvertone Devils". We have a business making antler lighting, furniture and lampshades of mica. (www.naturalforms.com) Shelley and I have two fine young boys named Jobim and Rowan.
