Bill Wimmer is a saxophonist residing in Lincoln NE. In May of 2008 he put together Project Omaha featuring musicians originally from Omaha NE, and recorded a live CD in Vail CO. The CD is available at CD Baby and through this website. Here is an excerpt from Bill's liner notes:
For Project Omaha I enlisted some old friends and family that I thought would
compliment each other’s abilities. We all had two things in common:
First, we all started playing jazz in Omaha. Second, we all love playing
with Tony Gulizia (keyboards, vocals). Victor Lewis (drums) and Dave Stryker (guitar), the New Yorkers, were just as enthusiastic
as the rest of us (Mark Luebbe-bass, Joey Gulizia-percussion), about playing in Vail and reconnecting with each other
as friends, and we had the added anticipation of never having played
together as a group.
Tony, and I chose music we thought would showcase the band,
with an emphasis on the groove. With Tony’s vocals and tasty keyboards,
Dave’s fiery blues and lyricism, Joey's and Victor’s inspired interplay,
Mark Luebbe's solid foundation and a chance to stretch out with a beautiful
band, it seemed like a recipe for good music.
This record is a testament to the music we love, and to the musicians
who’ve inspired and spread the music from Omaha to the rest of the
world. We call this band Project Omaha, and we hope you enjoy
hearing the music as much as we did creating it.

Hey Bill, glad you enjoyed Mantilla's Good Vibrations CD. Lots of good things have been happening since then. Some good projects currently in the works as well. Let's hope we can all survive this messed up economy!
