About me:
I bought my first mixer when I was 15, using it for mixing Whitney Houston with Eurohouse on my radioshow, broadcasted from my bedroom, for a totally non existing, imagined audience. No I wasn’t mentally ill, but growing up in the countryside makes you inventive in trying to have fun. Later on, I gradually discovered more and more parts of the world of electronic music. Slowly the Breaks and Bass (hence the B in Billy B) virus had me in its overwhelming power. Years of building a vinyl collection and learning how to mix properly followed. In the meantime me and some friends built a place in a deserted warehouse in the outskirts of our hometown Gent, in which we could party, smoke, drink and mix. Good times!
In early 2004 I met some guys with the same passion for jungle and drum&bass music, my big love at the time. Together we started organising parties called A Jungle Supreme. These are dedicated to the oldskool rave and jungle sounds of the 90's (proven by the fact we had artists like Slipmat, Dextrous, Nookie Bizzy B, Randall and of course or resident dj Extreme and our line up) but also to the best of what the drum&bass scene of today has to offer, artists like Martsman, Breakage and ASC were invited to demonstrate that. Yes indeed, one can still find trully beatiful music if he searches hard enough in this once so rich music style, nowadays only known with a wider audience for uninspired and childish beats made by people like Pendulum or Clipse. Is it wrong to use names? I don't believe so, as I think it's time to end the wide spread attitude of political correctness, I'm tired of hearing that oneliner 'les gouts et les couleurs, on ne les discuttes pas'. Some drum&bass is pure shit, and I think it's a pitty that this crap dominates the perception of d&b. But besides nagging about that, we give parties and dj sets to push particular music. I might sound rather elitist right now, but you might be surprised of what I play, a party is meant for partying (huh!), and it will allways be my main ambition to let the people dance. I try to do that by playing a combination of classics and inovative songs. So don’t expect a so called drumfunk set from me on a party (by the way, anyone a clear definition for that word?). I would like to describe the drum&bass I like as dark, deep but especially varied. You might check out our internet radio show on www.jungletrain.net (each saturday ,18 till 20, GMT plus 1), but as I live rather far it’s most of the times only Subception that does the show (in style!).
Drum&bass sad evolution made me look out for other music as well, and last 2 years I can get really excited by new dubstep, techno and hip hop. Exciting things are happening right now and I’m glad to witness it all from such a short distance. So as a dj I can play a broad range of music, from oldskool rave and Belgian techno to dubstep, hip hop, UK Garage, and of course jungle and d&b. I’m proud to co-organise (with Madlock and gaz) the monthly (or biweekly) dubstep sessions at Decadance, called PULL UP (on hold till next septembre).
You can hear me play each friday evening in The Cover (a bar in Gent), mostly hiphop, breaks, r&b grime, dubstep and reggae, or on the dates mentioned on this myspace!
